Drum Drivers is the essence of the artistic complicity between two Beatmakers, Linkrust and Slone. Both members of the collective French-speaking "Tour De Manège" they follow each other from a distance until the day when at a virtual crossroads the two associates meet for a musical road trip towards California. This duo of talented beatmakers takes us to the crossroads of their influences through encounters during their journey. 12 tracks mostly punctuated by drums with a demonic groove. 12 stopovers tinged with Jazz, Blues, sprinkled with Folk and Psych Rock. Adding vocals with Japanese and Portuguese accents, a few scratches and some trumpet solos. You will then obtain an album which can be listened to as one watches a film, from beginning to end, driven by dynamic drums, a bass with funky flavor, on atmospheres that are both chill and contemplative.

Japanese producer Boogie Mason pays homage to the LA Beat Scene with slooped samples, swung grooves, and MPC cuts that will make head-nodders out of rhythm skeptics. These 10 instrumental tracks weave a tale of reverence for the no rules, unquantized ethos that took Los Angeles beatmakers by storm in the early 2010s. Jazz drummer virtuoso Berlin Lama is likely to be found in the studio on any given day, adding his spice, kicks and snares to tons of songs and albums throughout Switzerland, or playing gigs as a drummer for a couple of big acts. On his free time he needs to relax his muscles and his mind, crafting incredibly smooth and at the same time banging beats for himself. Taking inspiration from the likes of J. Dilla, Q-Tip, D'Angelo, the Soulquarians and the whole Neo-Soul sound of the early 2000s, Berlin is an astute observer of drum patterns (of the above mentioned) but doesn't come short adding his own swing, complexity and density in a fashion only a virtuous drummer could. A remix of the popular song "Guilty Luv" by rare lyricist "bron-k" on the mellow side, the remix by "Kenichiro Nishihara" was a bigger hit than the original. This 7inch, which has been difficult to find for a long time, has been re-released in a new guise, coupled with the original. The melancholic and lyrical piano melody is matched beautifully with the heart-wrenching and melancholic vocals. In addition to a remix by Kenichiro Nishihara, the flip side features the original by Loptimist. It will be re-released as a 7-inch single with completely new spec.

1988 is the follow up to Knxwledge’s official debut album Hud Dreems (Stones Throw, 2015). The same year Hud Dreems was released Knx worked with Kendrick Lamar on To Pimp a Butterfly, earning the producer his first Grammy. A duo with Anderson .Paak called NxWorries was formed around the same time. Their single “Suede” became a viral hit, vaulting the singer to R&B stardom, and their album Yes Lawd! followed through on that song’s immense promise. Knx and Paak have quietly continued collaborating, and some of the new work is heard on 1988.

A prolific artist in the extreme sense of the word, Knxwledge continues to redefine instrumental hip-hop almost in real-time with a stream of beat tapes numbering in the hundreds on Bandcamp, and video remixes on Instagram.

This prolific output began early. 1988 takes its name from the fact that much of the new record was created that very year, when Knx was an infant. As the story is told, little baby Knx was left alone by his mother for just a few moments and crawled to a family member’s vintage Sp–12 sampler. When his mother returned he had already produced his first beats and nearly mastered the machine. These tracks, all produced before nap time while rocking a Nike diaper, were stored over the years on floppy discs, then brought to his studio in recent months where they were finished up, mixed, and mastered.

It's rare to see Nassau, Covid and Grace Jones in the same sentence, but they were indeed part of the creative basis for DJ Vadim's brand new album, Feel UP.

As a busy international DJ, this was nothing short of armageddon for Vadim. The skies were darkened, but rather than sink into inactivity and hibernation, DJ Vadim created within himself his own tropical music festival, an alternative universe that would share some kind of kinship with the recordings made at Compass Point Studios, orchestrated by Chris Blackwell for Grace Jones (1980-1982), James Brown, Ac/dc, and many others...

It was a melting pot of world-class musicians, blending reggae, pop, soul and African rhythms and sounds... together creating one of the most influential albums of the period, and it was in this spirit that the inspiration and title of DJ Vadim's new album, Feel UP (literally 'Feel good' / 'Have the strength, the courage'), was born.

Forty years after those sessions at Compass Point Studios, the same quest for discovery took place in Vadim's Barcelona studio. The desire for growth, self-discovery and the creation of new sounds took hold. The dubcatcher with its 80s digital sounds went out and came back with a wide variety of musical tapas.
