LA producer Blake Robin aka LUXXURY’s new full-length album finds the bassline obsessed disco addict experimenting with funk, synthpop and even (gasp!) pure instrumentals. ‘Increasingly in my most recent singles I’ve been treating vocals like instruments’ says Robin, ‘backgrounding and balancing them as sonic elements instead of centerpieces, so the listener gets lost in the groove.’ And indeed the star of these 11 songs is undoubtedly the 11 stellar basslines that ground the swirling synths and melodies as vocal fragments coolly dip in and out of the mix along. Highlights include: Kcrw fave ‘What Are We Gonna Do?’; the slap bass workout ‘Somebody Tonight’; the contemplative ‘…At Any Moment’ (playlisted by Purple Disco Machine) and its sister track, the title track ‘Alright’; while playful disco-house burner ‘Let’s Stay Together’ blends house and jazz funk rhythms with his trademark dusty basslines. The album was 100% created by Robin, who wrote, performed, recorded and mixed all 11 songs, and even created the artwork. "Moody Disco Vol. 1" finds Los Angeles disco/funk maestro, Kcrw fave & rising TikTok star (250k followers for his "Interpolation" videos) Luxxury aka Blake Robin exploring new disco directions. Leading the EP, "Let's Stay Together” blends house and jazz-funk rhythms with his trademark dusty basslines, dreamy ‘70s keys, and minimal vocals. Next up, “Don't Give Up (I Believe in You)” is a fresh, funk-infused fusion of 'Forget Me Nots'-style Rhodes, infectious bass, dusty lo-fi beats and a simple, uplifting mantra-like vocal delivered by Robin in his gorgeous falsetto. On the flip, "Two Hearts" revitalizes a familiar 80s Hi-NRG topline with a new chill-yet-funky instrumental. Los Angeles disco producer LUXXURY's Be Good 2 Me 12" kicks off with the title track, a muscular, bass guitar-powered song (as heard in Forza Horizon 4 for XBOX). Evoking that 1979 moment where rock bands like Kiss and The Rolling Stones made their token 'disco song,' the tune was inspired by the melodic punk basslines of The Clash's 'The Magnificent Seven' and Hot Chocolate's 'Every 1's A Winner. "I Need You" (8.5, DJ Magazine) is an honest-to-god love song featuring funked-up bass from Fitz' and the Tantrums' Joe Karnes, while "Feel the Night" (as featured on Hedkandi Beach House, Toolroom's Poolside Ibiza and more) is a rubbery dancefloor destroyer just begging for falsetto sing-along.
