A little maturation goes a long way. Youthful energy is key to aggressive music, but it takes experience and talent to channel that energy productively. In the case of The Catalyst, they've tightened the reins on the droopy tantrums of their previous EP's. Now their music seethes, with biting lyrics to match. Eric Smith still vomits vocals like an aural exorcism, but his "singing" is stronger and more prominent in the mix. He takes aim at the rogues behind the economic meltdown ("Corner office with a view / Picture window from which you might leap to join us in the streets"), as well as Internet backbiting ("You never cite your sources when your passion is poison"). Musically, The Catalyst continue to crank out throbbing, screamy, squealing songs. They sound like the swampy middle ground between Karp and Pg. 99. Yet their members have grown into a tightly knit unit. Though sloppiness is de rigueur among bands that have rediscovered vintage Sub Pop and AmRep records, The Catalyst boast real chops and an idiosyncratic take on the form. On Swallow Your Teeth (Perpetual Motion Machine, 2009), The Catalyst control their chaos just enough to create their most cohesive work yet. Perpetually out of print, much sought after and universally worshipped amongst those in the know, Winter's "Into Darkness" was a game-changing classic.

Formed in New York circa 1988, Winter played slow, deep and hard nuclear doom with a crust punk rawness, that came across like Hellhammer jamming with Amebix. Their penchant for mammoth sized and funeral-paced, wasteland droning has become a touchstone reference for bands across the whole spectrum of underground metal.

Their pre-internet infamy led to Winter demos being tape- traded in hallowed adoration by fans and bands alike, gaining notable fans such as Fenriz from Darkthrone. Deserving of their special place in the pantheon of one-off classic albums, the Swans-like noise and down-tuned Earth-like riffs of "Into Darkness" went on to spawn countless doom and sludge bands, being an influence for an entire doomed generation.

The Winter come-back show at Roadburn Festival in 2011 was massively anticipated and held a captivated audience. Packing out one of The Netherlands largest stages, that particular Winter show, after many years in obscurity is a rare event that is still highly regarded today. The band is a rare jewel amongst collectors, and audiences alike.

"Into Darkness" was a gateway drug to the dark depths of sludge metal, and now awaits a whole new throng of acolytes who bow down before the throne of heavy doom. Svart Records is proud to re-release it once more, putting the album back in print for a new generation of listeners. Eternal Winter awaits!

Born in 1866 BC, Abraham lived a peaceful life near the town of Sodome, NC. He married his half-sister who gave birth to some 14 kids while already aged far over a hundred years. those golden days are gone, but the virile power of Abraham's beard survived and he was reborn in 2007 as a rock band near Lausanne, Switzerland. Committed rehearsals and songwriting eventually led the band to record their first full-length, 'An Eye on the Universe', which was released in early 2011 on Pelagic Records. The critically acclaimed album was presented live all over Europe, with the likes of bands like Red Fang, Intronaut, Khoma, EF, Celan, Birds In Row, Mumakil or Kruger. Abraham's second album "The Prophet, The Serpent and The Whore" was inspired by a novel by J.G. Rawls. In case you're not familiar with this writer, well, shame on you! A bit of Wikipedia research will tell you that Rawls lived at the beginning of the 20th century and died in an motel room somewhere on the East Coast. It is not exactly clear whether his works are authentic or not; they might have been written by college students trying to pull a prank. The title of his most well-known book is The Chronoception. Abraham found this book on a flee market and used it as an inspiration for their second album. The lyrics were freely adaptated from the story, not wanting the record to become a literary illustration of the book. The story of an unnamed man falling from the sky to crawl through this world's lowest spheres; and the prevalent themes of falling from grace, primal fear, physical pain, loneliness and mystical visions resonated perfectly within Abraham's continuous state of mind. The music to this exploration of the human soul and consciousness was composed with these themes in mind and thus emerged darker and more tortured than what the band had done before. Magnus Lindberg from Cult Of Luna mixed the album and drove the contemplative aspects of their sound to even bleaker aural landscapes, while pushing its violent side further towards armageddon... Expect to see the band live on stage in France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Slovenia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Italy soon.

Extreme UK Progressive Doom Metal band Self Hypnosis, featuring members of Esoteric, set to to release their new album Contagion Of Despair on the 21st of August 2020 via Svart Records! Though Self Hypnosis are a new band, aficionados of the British Extreme Doom scene should need little introduction to the band members themselves. The project has its roots in Kris Clayton‘s long-standing, often-solo, Camel Of Doom outfit, which itself evolved from basic Stoner beginnings towards a much more avant-garde proposal, culminating with the release of fourth full-length album Terrestrial through renowned Russian label Solitude Productions in 2016. Following that, Kris began work on composing the next Camel Of Doom album, but quickly realised that the material was becoming even more experimental and eclectic than previous outings: so much so that it would be more appropriate to record it under a different name, making it clear that there should be no preconception, or historical expectation, attached to it.

The crown jewel of Finnish Death Metal, reissued in a band-approved new 30th anniversary edition. Features a new vinyl master from the original source by Noise for Fiction, plus a booklet with a lengthy feature by Hippo Taatila and some visual memorabilia. As an added vinyl bonus there's a large poster by the original cover artist Rob Smits creating a new vision of the album cover for the new millennium.

Together with bands like Demilich, Abhorrence, Disgrace, Xysma and Sentenced, Demigod from the wastelands of Loimaa, southern Finland, put Finland on the map in the global death metal scene in the late 80's and early 90's. Having risen to underground fame with their demo Unholy Domain, Slumber of Sullen Eyes was a hugely expected debut album. When it was finally released in 1992 after a complicated creation process at Tico-Tico Studios in northern Finland, it was received with open arms and drooling excitement by the then very active underground death metal scene.

That scene was, however, short lived,and by 1994 pretty much every band had switched from death metal to something else entirely. What was left after the bands had left the building was a number of classic albums that constitute the legacy of Finnish Death Metal. Among them, Slumber of Sullen Eyes is one of the most original and ferocious. There was nobody like Demigod.

Svart Records are proud to reissue this remarkable and quite hard to find album on CD, vinyl and tape.

We asked the band to comment on the new single, which will serve as an anticipation for their incoming fourth studio album, following the acclaimed Väsen (2018). Guitarist and singer Heljarmadr (Dark Funeral) expressed his thoughts: “Flame Of Hephaestus” is the first single from our new album Lycaon. We feel that it is a good representative for the album and it carries an intensity that kinda connects it with our last album Väsen. It serves as a natural bridge, if you will.

With their sophomore full-length "Gotta Light?", dark rock innovators Crone are cruising in a high octane fuelled hotrod. Channelling their personal musical inspirations that range from Alice IN Chains, via Killing Joke, NEW Model Army, and JOY Division to Pink Floyd among many others, the Germans leave their very own and personal mark on the genre that has been brought back to the forefront of interest by acts such as Ghost in recent years. While composer, guitarist, and singer Phil Jonas had felt tired, burned out, and empty, working on new songs for Crone provided the spark that kindled the firestorm of fresh ideas and led to the creation of "Gotta Light?". The album title was inspired by the haunting eighth episode of David Lynch's masterpiece TV series "Twin Peaks". A corresponding element of the mysterious and surreal permeates all of the new songs that revolve around topics such as the hope of receiving signals from the afterlife 'Waiting for Ghosts'), shattered dreams 'Abyss Road'), and a guiding last will 'Gemini'). Crone was conceived out of a musical collaboration between Phil "sG" Jonas and Embedded drummer and guitarist Markus Renzenbrink. Both musicians wanted to explore musical horizons beyond the metal limits of their regular bands at the time. As a result the "Gehenna" EP was released in 2014 and sparked a first wave of interest. Critics labelled the first effort post-rock, post-punk, and even as shoegaze. The well-received debut full-length 'Godspeed' hit the streets in 2018 and its more focussed and consistent songs got often filed under "post-rock". With Crone having been elevated to the main band of each protagonist, the band's renewed focus and urgency is clearly audible on "Gotta Light?”. With Christian Schmidt a permanent keyboard player has been added to the line-up that now also features lead guitarist Kevin Olasz for added sparkle and sonic depth. From the ashes of Secrets OF THE Moon a dark reborn phoenix is rising with Crone and this bird of prey is ready to rock humanity's unstoppable descent into madness: "Gotta Light?"

"Inri" is the 1987 debut album by Brazilian extreme metal band Sarcofago. Inri would become the unofficial staple of the emerging extreme metal subgenres. Today, it still stands as one of the most iconic and influential releases of the decade, if not all time. With lyrics that depict the apocalyptic, and desolate nature of denomination, Tardus Mortem take the listener into a bleak and dismal existence depicting human and godly atrocities, in the form of Jehovah witness apocalyptic prophecies. This is the essence of Tardus Mortem’s debut album. The band dives down even further into the abyss of cacophony to create sepulchral hymns of desolation and the most desolate and apocalyptic record possible. “Engulfed in Pestilent Darkness” was originally released in a limited cassette tape edition in 2019 and quickly spread into the underground like the foulest fumes. Now, the cult gets a new chapter by being released on very limited LP (only 100 copies). Tardus Mortem is a Blackened-Death metal band from funen Denmark, which sole purpose is suffocating the listener in ominous tales of Christ and providence by using their instruments to create morbid melodies enchanting the impending Armageddon. The band consists of Dennis Strømberg, age 20 (ex-Black Tritonus ex-Human Mutilation, Apocalyptic Frost, Rancid Pus) on drums and vocals, Lasse Usbeck Andresen, age 22 (ex-Ilumize, ex-Human Mutilation) on guitar and vocals and Christian Baier Rasmussen, age 22(Ex-error 404, ex-Dark Marshall) on bass and vocals. Through the “Engulfed in Pestilent Darkness” debut album, the hymns have only gotten more desolate and apocalyptic, which has come across the few concerts the band has played from 2017 to now. And that will come equally across on the forthcoming album.

The blackened death veterans deliver an example of Swedens classic style at the border of harsh and evocative Nordic blackness and the captivating epic melodies of their homelands death metal. Founded in 2008 in Mjölby, Östergötland, the band rose from the ashes of cult act Mithotyn. With their first three albums "Fímbulvintr" (2010), "...to North" (2012), and "Karg" (2014), King OF Asgard firmly established themselves as a powerful presence in their scene. Due to their lyrical topics and visuals relating to local and Norse myths and sagas, runic writing and art styles as well as the occasional use of traditional melodies, the Swedes are sometimes categorised as Viking or pagan metal. Yet, King OF Asgard clearly went their own way and with a marked penchant for story-telling at epic length, they forcefully claimed a musical realm of their own. The release of "taudr" in 2017 put fresh wind into the sails of King OF Asgard with the arrival of new members, who were armed with invigorating enthusiasm and great talent, which some of them also prove in Vanhelgd. This new line-up remains stable and has worked hard to explore their new creative and musical opportunities to the full. Teaming up with Magnus "Devo" Andersson, who could easily claim the title of MARDUKs house producer, the Swedes made sure to maintain a black twist to their individual sound. Now, King OF Asgard invite you to explore the dark secrets of the Viking world and those glimpses at ancient rituals that lurk deep within Old Norse writings.
