A Nashville Girl

Miley Cyrus is the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus. Miley grew up on her family’s farm outside of Nashville and moved to Toronto, Canada while her father filmed the television series Doc. It was at this time that Miley decided she wanted to act as well. She got her first acting role as Kylie in her father’s television series. In 2003, Miley and her family returned to the United States. Miley continued acting and landed roles in several television series and movies, including Big Fish (2003) and High School Musical 2 (2006). In 2006, Miley auditioned for the lead role in the Disney Channel television series Hannah Montana. She won the role and Hannah Montana first aired in March 2006. The series was a huge success and Miley quickly became one of the most popular teen stars in the world. Hannah Montana followed the life of Miley Stewart, a teenage girl who had a secret identity as a pop star named Hannah Montana. The series was a hit with kids and teens alike, and Miley became a household name. In addition to her success in Hannah Montana, Miley also released several successful albums, including Meet Miley Cyrus (2007) and Breakout (2008). She also starred in several movies, including Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009) and The Last Song (2010).

Metamorphosis Miley

After the release of her 2013 album Bangerz, which showed her transformation from a Disney star to a provocative pop icon, Cyrus continued to push her artistic boundaries. It had a more electronic and dance-oriented sound than her previous albums. The vinyl spawned several hit singles, including Wrecking Ball and We Can’t Stop. It continued in 2018 with the album Younger Now, which cleverly shimmies between country and pop, as can be easily heard on the track Rainbowland with Dolly Parton feature. Plastic Hearts is a rock album that featured a more mature sound than their previous vinyls. The record marked a significant shift toward rock and glam influences. With tracks like Midnight Sky and collaborations with rock legends like Billy Idol and Joan Jett, Cyrus became a new musical personality. Miley Cyrus’ eighth studio album, Endless Summer Vacation (2023), was released by Sony. It is her first original work since leaving RCA Records after her seventh studio album Plastic Hearts and signing with Columbia in early 2021. The album was supported by the singles Flowers, River, Jaded, and Used to Be Young. Endless Summer Vacation is a pop and dance album and represents a departure from the synth-pop, rock, and glam-rock genres represented on Plastic Hearts. Cyrus related the overall concept of the album to her fondness for Los Angeles, where the album was primarily recorded, and the sequencing of the tracks to the course of a day. In addition to her studio albums, Cyrus also released several extended plays and singles during this period. She also collaborated with other artists such as Future, Mike Will Made It and Elton John.

From teen star to pop icon

Miley began her career as Disney Channel’s popular Hannah Montana and seamlessly evolved into a pop sensation. Her bold transformation from wholesome teen idol to fearless, boundary-pushing artist showcased her versatility. Miley’s impact on music has been profound. With hits like Wrecking Ball and Party in the USA, she has become a defining voice of the contemporary pop scene. Her genre-bending style incorporates elements of pop, rock, hip hop and country and appeals to a diverse audience. Beyond music, Miley’s advocacy work deserves recognition. Her vocal support for LGBTQ+ rights, gender equality and mental health awareness has sparked important conversations around the world. She uses her platform to advocate for causes she cares about. Miley’s fearless fashion choices and bold stage presence have set trends and empowered countless young artists to embrace their individuality.
