Anané’s Take A Ride EP was produced by Two Soul Fusion, aka Louie Vega and Josh Milan, all with live string arrangements courtesy of the Apple Hill String Quartet and conducted by Leroy Burgess. The recording dives from the effortless heights of Punk Disco (Let Me Be Your Fantasy, High) into the swirling eddies of Jazz Funk (Coffy Is The Color) before climbing back out into the languorous arms of Italo-Disco (Tutto Previsto). The EP is held together in its entirety by the dreamy, sumptuous vocal of its creator Anané, who considers her top line one vital part of the instrumental whole. “I am art,” Anané reflects carefully, “for I am the music as much as I am the singer. Creation means to crawl into the unseen of my own dreams and becoming the beast of my vision, singing to the world as I go by.”

Opening singles Let Me Be Your Fantasy and High both tap into the lifeblood of classic punk disco – when rock, punk and disco merged in the early 80s to create the seminal NYC sound – chugging bass lines and tempestuous high hats providing the DNA for both cuts. On Let Me Be Your Fantasy Vega and Milan employ a dizzying array of tumbling, soaring string sections that dance across rivers of percussion and bass courtesy of Elements of Life band member XXX, Anané’s vocal swirling effortlessly above it all. High starts in similar fashion, Anané pulling the listener into the dance from the moment the needle drops, the chugging bassline catching her wind as the single begins to gather momentum. In both tracks it’s all about the movement, a thrilling, heady sense of dynamism and rhythm that grows with each song as they relax into their natural groove.

From disco Anané coaxes us down into the freewheeling depths of jazz funk with the single Coffy Is The Color. At nine minutes long this is an indulgent masterpiece, a carefully controlled riot, expertly orchestrated so that it builds and grows in energy and pace bar on bar. Anané is the central riff underpinning everything, her voice the steadfast constant within the experiment, various instruments tumbling, diving, rising and swirling around her, adding in volume and excitement until the listener is swimming in whirling electronic and acoustic waters. For any audiophile, Coffy Is The Color is as luxurious an experience as it gets.

Sensual, languid, practically slinking its way out of the speakers and across the terrazzo is Italo-Disco single ‘Tutto Previsto’. A homage to Anané’s love of Italy, the single embodies the unhurried, lazy heat of the Mediterranean. Slow basslines and sliding guitars that have an almost Cajun feel to them provide the song’s foundation, while strings shimmer and dance across the top. Between the two, prowling with an almost feline nature, is Anané’s simmering vocal.

Michael Gray’s Dub Mix of Get On The Funk Train brings the EP full circle back into disco, chunky, squelching rhythms rubbing up against undulating organs, insistent percussion and glistening strings. Paying homage to the original production of Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, it showcases the truly timeless nature of the genre, a legacy only added to by Anané’s latest body of work.

Take A Ride is a typically daring outing from Anané, who has for her entire career as musician, writer, singer, DJ and label boss, forged her own path. “My role as an artist has a higher purpose,” she explains, “not only my own personal expression but inspiring, creating, and possibly moulding the world around me. Understanding this sense of power. That I have within comes with great responsibility and understanding that my music will always be more than what I could ever imagine.”

We’re very proud to welcome Rome’s Andy Romano to the Bordello family with his long-awaited debut release! These tracks were shelved for more than 10 years and floating around between a handful of DJ’s after Andrea Confrancesco chose a different path in his creative career by becoming a professional illustrator.

The A-side makes space for the almost 10 minutes long monster anthem “Monday”. A killer composition in typical Romano fashion and on repeat at the Bordello HQ for many years. Another Taste's debut brings together a blend of boogie, 70’s funk and obscure disco - birthed from unearthing forgotten sounds and reinventing them for the modern era. A recipe they’ve been cooking up successfully over the last years in the studio, through their label Space Grapes and on tour through some of Europe’s finest stages.

Another Taste is a Rotterdam-born concept band formed by a group of longtime friends, consisting of Bobby van Putten (keys), Bob Roche (bass), Barend Lippens (keys) and Teun van Zoggel (drums).

Inspired by the obscurity and the do-it-yourself approach of private press culture of the late 1970s and 80s, their first releases were mostly a product of late night sessions between the four of them at the studio of their co-producer Danilo Plessow (mcde), leading to the founding of Space Grapes Records.

The band’s first songs were released under various pseudonyms such as Mad Honey, Galxtc or Jambonne and quickly gathered them a loyal following and support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Kenny Dope and many more.

Another Taste ripples their sound beyond the studio and onto the stage. In their live performances they introduce additional band members in Sarina Voorn (Vox), Diogo Carvalho (percussion) and Florian Verhagen (guitar). A core group with whom they’ve played at prestigious festivals such as Worldwide or Kappa Futur and legendary venues such as Jazz Cafe London, New Morning Paris, and Tresor Berlin.

The March-scheduled album release is the latest iteration of the band’s evolution. From the A-side opener "Turn Up" to the B-side closer "Perfect Night," the album is a testament to Another Taste’s ceaseless creative exploration. Magic Wand welcomes Baz Bradley for a series of Special Editions that keep blissed-out late summer dancing sessions alive and possible even as days shorten and the sun fades away. He opens up with 'Soul Boys' (Acetate edit) which is an 80s disco jaunt with superb vocals and noodling funk rifts. 'Super Maxi' is a more stripped-back and aloof groove with sung-spoke vocals and hook melodies making for a weird yet wonderful vibe. 'Flight 207' (Gate One) is another slow-motion and dubbed-out disco funker then 'Burn The Candle' has a raw percussive twist.

Last year saw Greek edit wunderkind C Da Afro drop two joints on Cardiology amongst a whole load more discofied party fodder for the likes of SpinCat, Sound Exhibitions and more besides. Now he's back on Cardiology with even more goodies to share with the people in the place, leading in with intention through the rabble rousing 'Get On Your Feet'. He's working the filter hard on 'The Solution', teasing the funk until that sweet release on the drop. 'Disco Gang' whips up Backlash's classic '81 stomper 'Hang With The Gang' and gives it a gentle house injection, while 'Doing The Boogie' burrows deep into the groove for a simmering cut to keep the crowd loose and limber.

Delving deep to explore the roots of Brazil’s musical tradition, the Camarão Orkestra has tapped into Candomblé and its rhythms. Born on the drums of enslaved Africans in a ritual that invokes numerous deities, they lay the foundation for this new album, Nação África.
The eleven musicians, guided by Amanda Roldan’s silky voice and guest appearance by Anthony Joseph (“Canto De Bahia”), explore and embrace the murmuring polyrhythm of Brazilian percussion instruments, vibrating berimbau and squeaking cuícas, pouring their tightly-wound funk bass into the groove and letting their jazz fly free, together and solo.
The seven nonchalant tracks get your hips swaying, whether you’re in a comfortable armchair or surrounded by other dancers. They take your mind far away, on a journey paved by analog synths with Fender Rhodes crystals to the horizon where the sun’s last glimmer has finally faded away. From the mind of Caserta comes a brand-new imprint. God Hour picks up where Bridge Boots left off putting Caserta right back to work doing what he’s come to be best known for; turning old school joints, usually not meant for the dance floor, into modern day heaters. 'Playa' takes a '70s ballad about the one who got away and makes it a little less heart wrenching and a lot more danceable! The A side features the full vocal surrounded by the driving bass, drums and horns any good disco record should have. With lush Rhodes, strings and synths to warm things up and make you wonder where things went awry even while you’re 2 stepping the night away. For those of you who cant come to grips with the fact that that special someone is gone or just plain hate lyrics then flip-er on over for a classic Caserta Dub.

Claude François is one of the most mythical figures of French Pop music you might have never heard of. He was active from the mid 60’s until his sudden and untimely passing in a tragic domestic accident in 1978. While he was mostly known as a teenage sensation, he had proper groovy numbers too. Most importantly, he co-wrote and sang the original version of what would become “My Way”, one of the most enduring songs in history. in 1977, after hearing Lamont Dozier‘s ‘Going Back To My Roots’; “Cloclo” (as the french lovingly called him) saw the potential of this new Disco trend. This led to the recording of ‘Magnolia For Ever’ and ‘Alexandrie Alexandra’ under the direction of his long time band leader Slim Pezin, who also happened to be a Manu Dibango collaborator as well as a core member of seminal Disco studio outfits Voyage & Arpadys. ‘Alexandrie Alexandra’ was recorded in November 1977 at Trident Studios in London and featured a team of skilled UK players, all of whom were involved in Cerrone recordings. Back in Paris, Raymond Donnez AKA Don Ray added strings and horns, then sound engineer and keyboard maestro Bernard Estardy, AKA Universal Energy, L.E.B Harmony and La formule du Baron did the original mix. ‘Alexandrie Alexandra’ features an all-star studio cast, but unlike other French acts with same Disco pedigree, it never reached an international audience, mostly due to the very prominent vocals being sung in French. As Claude François last single and one of his most successful, it was never originally remixed for clubs, nor released as a 12’’. To this day, it is still the most played French song in the country’s Discotheques, transcending generations. Dimitri From Paris, being very familiar with this song, always felt the urge of lifting the vocal layer to unveil the beautiful orchestration. So, when finally entrusted with the original multi track stems, he turned the spotlight on Don Ray’s string and horns, bringing the great drums and percussion to the forefront, adding his signature tricks and breaks in the process. This very special 12’’ on Dimitri From Paris new Les Disques De Paris label, features a full vocal ‘Version Discotheque’ and a dubbed out ‘Version instrumentale’, on each side. With these new remixes ‘Alexandrie Alexandra’ finally sounds like a Cerrone Vs Claude François record. Something it almost really always was.

Clive From Accounts has entered the meeting! A relative newcomer to the scene, his name may conjure mundane images of faxes, spreadsheets and dull chat by the water cooler, but Mr Clive has turned in a beautifully realized 4 tracker of slick deepness for his first outing on RNT Reserve. From the epic crescendo of Tell Me, the lush and wistful vibe of Without Your Love, to the quirky sampled groove of the EP’s title track, finishing with the icey late nate breaks-meets-bass thud of Yukon, this record is Strictly Business indeed, and the best kind.

Todd Terje's signature track "Inspector Norse" by Cruisic, which was released in a small press run in September 2019 and is still very much appreciated. Especially the Slowly Remix of the disco reggae song on the B-Side at that time is still being requested by many people. In response to the many requests, we have finally decided to release it as an RSD 2024 item, remastered and long-awaited! The Slowly Remix is included on Side-A, and the danceable ET Remix with a Nu Disco taste by Nagatetsu Takamiya is included on Side-B for the first time. Both are fully field-ready. Distant Images is D.K.’s fourth release on Antinote and we can say quite safely that Dang Khoa Chau fueled a few identifiable obsessions over the years – for those familiar with his work, it probably won’t feel like uncharted territory when they’ll hear a somehow well-known guitar in the background of the title-track.

What time spent collaborating with D.K. also showed us is how much his sound magnified itself and its textures sharpened for the past three years. We now know for sure that his music only seems versatile on the surface as Distant Images confirms that the Paris-based musician has been, in fact, digging deeper in the same direction; each new record working like a diaphragm, always more precisely adjusted to capture his inner vision. It feels, for instance, like D.K.’s music is constantly trying to reach a higher level of vanescence from one record to an other, a process which possibly accelerated after a visit from Suzanne Kraft – who he recorded an album with, earlier this year (coming out on Melody As Truth).

With Distant Images, D.K.’s sound also took a step further into reality – the most attentive ears will hear seagulls on Distant Images while rain is softly falling on Leaving – and slightly departed from the digital universes that his
previous records seemed to set in motion. From the most abstract songs – like the Steve Reich-ian Shaker Loops – to the most evocative ones, the five compositions on Distant Images are like stained glass, gently filtering natural light. It is therefore no coincidence if, of all the senses, the titles of the songs mostly refer to Sight: close your eyes while listening to the cinematographic Days Of Steam and visions of an industrious city might appearbefore you.

The beauty that emanates from Distant Images is of a diaphanous kind and the record a collection of kaleidoscopic moments.

Side A is an edit of the jazz-funk intro track “Main Title” from the original soundtrack of 1974 gritty subway hijack film The Taking Of The Pelham One Two Three. The soundtrack with its funk, jazzy score has been a well that hip-hop artists have repeatedly drawn from. Most notably, “Krazy Kings Too” by Company Flow, “Suprize Packidge” by Mix Master Mike, & “I’m Set” by Goodie Mob.

Side B is a subtle edit of “One Way Glass” by Manfred Mann Chapter Three, which is taken from their self-titled 1969 LP. Manfred Mann Chapter Three were a British experimental jazz rock band, 1969 to 1970, founded by South African keyboard player Manfred Mann & long-time partner Mike Hugg, both former members of the group Manfred Mann. The track was sampled by many, most notably by The Prodigy for their 2009 track “Stand Up” & on “Headbanger” by Krafty Kuts in 2011.

Free Soul 1969 The groove is heavy too ñ and a popular hip hop sample ñ but really itís all about Klemmerís blisteringly intense, stream of consciousness freak-out. Been sampled over 16x from INI to Ed O G & Da Bulldogs to Kurious, Akinyele, Dred Scott to name a few. Klemmer just wyles out on the sax keep that Psychedelic funk moving!! Up Above the Rock Edit 1968 You wonít find too many jazz songs that start with a drum break, but then this is probably one of the better jazz/soul hybrids Iíve heard in some time. Produced by Richard Evans this song is a perfect display of acoustic jazz funk with Ron Carter & Grady Tate filling out the Rhythm section. Dance Floor classic!!!

In a remarkable culmination of a nearly five-decade-long career, Donnell Pitman finally graces the music world with his debut album. Edoardo Florio Di Grazia is a singer-songwriter from the Amalfi Coast, born in Florence and living in Paris. After moving to Paris he began collaborating with the French producer Bruno Hovart "Patchworks", here working under his "Voilaaa" alias. Together, they created "Indossare Il Mare", a hymn to the return to one's origins, characterized by a fresh and Mediterranean sound. After the digital release in France only, Groovin Recordings will release a special vinyl edition for Record Store Day 2024, also including a remix by Giacomo Lecchi D'Alessandro.

2018 has a lot in store for London spiritual jazz outfit Emanative, with a full double LP and several remixes forthcoming, as well as some full live band appearances and DJ gigs. “Planet B” is the band’s first release of the year and it takes them in a slightly different direction, on a completely different vibration entirely, with an epic nine minute, almost post punk, afrobeat, disco and jazz inspired piece aimed at the leftfield dancefloor.

For more than a decade, Freak Heat Waves have been steadily amassing a cult following and earning acclaim from both critics and underground aficionados alike. Their music is a heady cocktail that defies easy categorization, blending elements of post-punk, psych, dub, ambient, house, and techno. Their eclectic sound has served as the soundtrack to countless DIY punk shows, outsider galleries and sleazy discos, establishing the duo as iconoclasts with a reputation for ignoring expectations and subverting genre conventions. While at times, the term ‘acquired taste’ may have seemed fitting, their latest release offers their most alluring output to date. Mondo Tempo, the duo's fifth LP, released through Vancouver's Mood Hut, was primarily recorded at their home studios in Montreal and Victoria. Building upon the electronic explorations of their previous record, Zap The Planet (Telephone Explosion), they inject their signature sound with a smoother and sweeter blend of dance music. The album’s tracks feature midi smoothness, trance mantras, dancehall grooves, ambient textures and vocal samples, creating a world that is both captivating and immersive. The second installment in the 45 Reloved series sees acclaimed world-electronic duo Dengue Dengue Dengue diving into the most intriguing side of Giuliano Sorgini. In the hands of the Peruvian duo, the sonic geography of ‘Oasi nella giungla’ magically shifts from the depths of Africa to those of the Amazon rainforest, and the tribal percussions of the Savannah turn into an equatorial cumbia full of mystery and mystical echoes.

Hot on the heels of Guinu’s modern Brazilian jazz-funk opus Palagô LP, comes an exceptional remix 12’’ of four standout album tracks.

For the A1, Jose Marquez flips the title track into a percussion-heavy and hypnotic Afro-Latin house burner, a masterful future classic of a mix that feels all but destined for late night Louie Vega or Osunlade sets. Faze Action harken back to their early-2000s vibe with their loungey beat-driven reimagining of 'Haja Fé'.

On the flip, RNT stalwart Diogo Strausz takes the angular 'Electromandinga' into the stratosphere, with anthemic synth melodies, rousing bloco percussion and interstellar vocal treatments. Rounding out the EP, well-loved Brazilian producer Carrot Green gives 'Porão de Ferro' an '80s boogie makeover, complete with dubbed out vocals and funky synth bass work over bouncy analog beats.

Here at Bordello, the hot season has already arrived. Championing this warmth is Italy’s very own Hey Cabrera! The Turin based dynamo melds elements of electro disco, italo and house to create a uniquely aromatic blend of dancefloor joy. Clean drum patterns, claps and hi-hats are at the foundation of “Italo Void”. From these percussion points, a bold and ensnaring melody takes flight; glimmering synthlines shining from beginning to end. Fellow Bordello mainstay, Lauer arrives to bring his own analogue sound to the title piece. Accentuating that irrepressible tune, piano keys give extra ballast with a touch of late evening romance as we wait for the sun to come up. The flip transports us to Scandinavia for some unrequited love. Although “Forelskelse” may mean unexplored passions, this track is brimming with emotions. Burning with a smouldering energy, ingredients from disco to house combine to produce a wonderfully uplifting work. David Bay, of Zissou Records fame, closes with his interpretation of “Forelskelse”. A measured introduction gives way to those addictive notes of the original, Bay stripping back the samples to allow the instruments to sing. A soundtrack to see us into a magical summer.

Born in Texas and based in New Orleans, Hiatt delivers a unique offering with “11pm-Til’” that bridges the gap between House, Breaks, Acid, Disco, Funk, and Boogie. Having established his name with releases on Rhythm Section and his own Mystery Zone label, this record is his strongest musical statement yet, packed with live instrumentation, and vibrant organic productions that make for both a perfect listen and a groovy club spin!

The late Hiroshi Yoshimura, a pioneer of Japanese ambient music. Yoshimura was involved in a wide range of fields, such as sound design for public installations, graphic design, visual poetry, free improvised performance (using his own body) and inventing his own instruments, right up until he passed away in 2003.
The seven songson this album were created for a fashion exibition held at a warehouse in the Tokyo bay area. He released it on cassete tape on Japanese label ‘Fukusei Gijutsu Kohboh” ran by Yoshio Ojima who produced the album.
Referring to the Loft: "As the time goes by, the Loft that was swept away ( forgotten) from the City but it somewhat has a look of a " City of Ruins" that reminds you of something you have forgotten. Something nostalgic. Sounds from the City and the vast landscape gave me a great opportunity to take a fresh look at Tokyo." says Yoshimura.

After the great success of Italo Brutalo´s debutalbum „Heartware“ it was quite obvious to let some of the hottest artists around rework some of the songs. Kafkactrl, who released some great EPs on Vortex Trax took „You are welcome“ to another – his very own dimension. While the original is quite straight his remix is dominated by electro beats paired with his stunning micro editing. „Reach Horizon“ has been remixed by Cyrk, who are without any doubts one of the best live acts these days. Mufti from Mexico made a very dancefloor-ish remix out of „Dream Machine“, which will be heard at festivals athis summer for sure. None other than one of the two Slow Motion Label heads, Fabrizio Mammarella, made a great dancefloor version of „Into a sampler“. South Korean´s Shubostar created a great cosmic disco remix of „Heat of the Knight“, that can be played any time in a cool DJ set. Last but not least Italo Brutalo´s longterm friend Kris Menace turned „Into a Sampler“ into a powerful bass-inyour-face version.

This hand stamped single-sided record brings the heat with an insanely groovy edit of GIL SCOTT-HERON's version of "grandma's Hands" to kick things off, and closes with a disco edit of perennial favorite, Luther Vandross.

After two EPs, Jean Tonique presents Well Mannered Frivolity,a first album with multiple influences. He plays all the instruments, and has selected a cast of guests to accompany him: the American rapper Ciscero poses on"This Feeling", the vocalist Keyone Starr,discovered on Mark Ronson's single "I Can't Lose", sings on two tracks. Dabeull is on "The Party" and Etienne de Crécy brings his immaculate techno touch to "Radio Tuning". Jean Tonique controls the sound space for this journey which ends with the elegiac "Home", with Kraftwer-Kian accents. The ideal cocktail for a first LP, to play in repeat mode during an evening that never ends.

Although a relative upstart on the scene, Junktion has been getting some serious heads nodding lately with releases on Sleazy Beats and Outplay, and the Hot & Bothered EP continues to define his dusty and organic sound. From the summery ease of the title track, to the fresh take on the oft-sampled 'I'm Wishin' to the discofied chugger 'Fling Cleaning' followed by the slow-burning 'Visions of You,' this EP is a beautiful listen from beginning to end. And the kids are gonna dig it too.
