For the fourth release on DJ Koze and Marcus Fink's Pampa imprint, hyperactive hotshot house hunk Axel Boman steps up and delivers a stunning debut EP for the label. Since many years an important force on the small but friendly Swedish club scene, and one third of the Studio Barnhus crew together with Kornél Kovács and Petter, Axel is as experienced a producer as his ideas are fresh. This tattooed Swede often talks about creating "worlds" rather than "tracks", and on his "Holy Love" EP we are transported to three very different places indeed. The title track, a collaboration with vocalist J Jonason, invites you to take part in a lazy afternoon cocktail party onboard an old sailing boat in Gothenburg's archipelago. Ten City are mixing up the White Russians and Giorgio Moroder's estranged Swedish grandson is peeling the shrimp. You fall asleep on the patio and wake up in a sweaty basement later that night. Through the shabby speakers of one of those small but friendly Stockholm night clubs, you hear "Purple Drank", a sleazy, sexy number that draws influences from Houston style screw music, classic deep house and hypnotic techno. The irresistible vocal hook - "I woke up with your name on my lips" has already echoed across dance floors from Tokyo to Amsterdam. Bouncy yet unsettling, this track is probably the most obvious DJ's favorite on the EP. Morning comes yet again, and for the after party we head to Axel's private rooftop terrace in sunny Gröndal. The laptop speakers are banging out the most loved up piano loop you ever heard. "Not So Much" is as simple and naïve as Axel Boman's haircut, a perfect ending to a perfect night and a perfect little record from this imperfect genius of a dance music producer.

The man has been hitting the bulls eye of public perception several times in the past, meeting everything it takes to get a crowd going with an intent on the detail when it comes to his arrangements and sound. These new two cuts seem nothing less than the essence of his abilities. There is “In Your Eyes", the name lending A side to this EP, showcasing a rather pensive mood. It’s just a few bars for the compound of kickdrum, tuned hi-hat tambourine and shimmering background noise until the first chords of an improvised piano-piece are tenderly laid upon the beat. Add a synth-motive coming back and forth and you’ll have the main ingredients to this - in every sense of the word - floor-moving tune.

Hamburg's Martin Stimming has defined a unique shade of deepness through years of association with Diynamic Music; melodic and meditative, quietly compelling and possessing a delicate strength. It's been three years since Swiss producer Michel Cleis conjured a storm with "La Mezcla", a Cadenza hit cemented into house canon as it was swiftly reissued by Strictly Rhythm, bringing the sabor latino into clubs worldwide. Some more 12"s and a number of high-profile remixes (going from tracey thorn to skunk anansie,for labels like rekids , bronswood or Aus) later, he's now teaming up with DJ Koze's crew for his next move: a colorful, crescendoing 12-minute tune that's ready to make a splash in your summer soundtrack. "Mir a Nero" begins with a steady, upbeat kick underlying a simple piano arpeggio - like if Philip Glass make dance music - but then some accents of vibrant hand percussion loosen up the vibe, soon progressing into rhythmic layers that cause the energy to swell. By the 4-minute mark, a subtle, buzzing synth permeates the background, contrasting the track's overall organic feel, leading into the playful piano chords and colombian vocal hook. Almost two years after their sensational debut release‚ Blaue Moschee, the arena rocking EP that's still a permanent fixture in Sven Väth's record bag, Die Vögel have laid another milestone in the history of club music - the Fratzengulasch EP. Ground breaking, surreal and captivatingly timeless, this dance music doesn't give a damn about the laws of gravity and the monotony of everyday routines. For some reason or another, there seems to be a sort of restricting fence around the electronic dance music scene at the moment. In true Trojan style, Die Vögel batter and ram the wall until a hole appears; a hole big enough for all the gleely squealing party people to crawl through. Out and on to freedom! It's a brave new world and help is at hand for the weary of ear. Listen in to the dream-like canons, freely dissonant brass orchestrations and hypnotic-psychedelic beats. The arrangements are clever, without relying on samples and tried and tested techniques. Off they stroll, Mense Reents and Jakobus Siebels, breathing in the fresh air, enjoying a clear view of a history of nocturnal dance music that goes back beyond 1986 and Chicago and is today international electronic folklore. It was the machines that taught Die Vögel duo to play their instruments in a different way and from them the machines have learned what makes a musician tick. That's how songs like ‚Fratzengulasch' come about: A tribal meditation, and a beautiful canon sung by Jakobus and Ebba Durstewitz, otherwise known as the band Ja König Ja. Or the glorious ‚Maikäferbenzin': There are sub binaural sounds on this track that get your brain hemispheres swinging in perfect synchronicity, on a frequency generally only experienced when in a trance. And there they're left, swinging away until the last third of the song where an abrupt saxophone break briefly interrupts, only to deliver the listener safely back into an absolute state of bliss and felicity. Mense and Jakobus' brilliant Pantha du Prince remix got people wondering but even before that the question cropped up: what is this music? DJ Koze calls it ‚Sect Funk'. The Artist Concurrently Known As Jackmate has been already been indoctrinated into our cult since he signed onto he Pampa bookings roster awhile back. As SoulPhiction he is also co-founder of Philpot, the Stuttgart-based label, home to the majority of his releases over the past 10+ years. Anyway, we get the privilege of stamping the Turkey logo on SoulPhiction's first proper release of 2013, following his remixes for Murat Tepeli and Detroit Swindle. "When Radio Was Boss" is a tribute to those magical electromagnetic waves that ruled yesteryear. With that prototypical Pampa percussion-rattling and clanking its way into the room-and a warm, round bassline bounce combined with some symphonic froth in the atmosphere, this track definitely demands airplay. On the dancefloor, at least! (And right in the middle of the track, catch the pleasantly jarring shout-out from Wbau, the call sign of the defunct New York radio station that counted members of Public Enemy and hosts of Yo! MTV Raps amongst its staff.) On the flip, the bpm gets cranked down just a bit for "Maybachswagger"-If the A-side is a tribute to radio, the B has roller-skating on its mind. Starting out spooky with a sampled voice cooing over a slightly detuned bassline, the surprise comes in the final third, when a kawaii disco vibe drops in, seducing you onto the rink for a few laid-back laps.

After a few nice but largely unnoticed 12"s for lower-profile labels, Dürerstuben is ready to make a serious maneuver, and Pampa is pleased to provide them with the proper platform. The Sheets of Rane EP is the Berliner duo's most sophisticated statement yet, imbuing cold programmed sounds with a glowing human touch and a penchant for melody. A1 "Gscheids Planet" unfolds with a deceptive intro, click-clackety downtempo stomps and crunchy snares beneath a tender vocoder coo, just when some muted guitar plucks crescendo into a burst of robo-synths. Although three minutes have passed, only now does the song reveal its true nature, a summery tune with rich synths that billow in the wind. Then, as its title indicates, "Haeckles Kosmos" further explores Dürerstuben's fascination with the unlimits of outer space. This star system in particular has a very tropical flair, punctuated with bouncy parallel fifths straight out of the Italo Orient. In between movements, the duo makes some brief non sequiturs into piano balladry, the kind that force a smile (and a record deal) out of DJ Koze. Finally, venturing even further into jacking territory, "Freiherr in der Wall" hinges upon syncopated, sometimes faltering beatbox rhythms, a swaggering bassline and fluttering arpeggiation. Coupled with hand-played chords, this is a prime example of how Dürerstuben can tame the beast machine and let irregularities be strengths. If you can get down with Metro Area, Zapp, Tensnake, and yes, even Survivor, then pick this one up.

After his separation from Playhouse in 2007 and the rather longish break that followed it, it looks as if Isolée has finally found their new homebase with Pampa Records. Evidence of this may be found in such unprejudiced tracks as "Taktell", a single extracted from the album "Well-Spent Youth" . As is tyical for Isolée, it defies any clear-cut genre classification and creates its very own harmonic setting, merging associations of pop, house and distant landscapes into a unique sound voyage. Now his second EP on Pampa is being released, and "Allowance" doesn't leave an inch of a doubt where the road is headed. Without making any concessions to the needs of a DJ, from bar one the theme is being introduced in all its inherent necessity and then continually established until a seemingly worn-out, mainstream, pop autotune voice settles upon the cosy bass bed just like a cherry on the cake. We haven't known Isolée anywhere near as free and poppy in a very long time. A more mix-friendly version of the track will be available for digital download. "You Could Do Your Memories" lures the listener away into a daydream, as if he suddenly found himself in an unknown place at a new-wave party that cannot possibly have happened the way it did. "Wobble", on the other hand, leaves only few questions unanswered, the party definitely looks familiar, and just when we reach that point where the funk motif resulting from the fusion of bassline and chords is threatening to wear us down, we are being released.

It’s little wonder that the Turkish/Bulgarian native finds himself coming into the orbit of the Hamburg-based label head. DJ Koze has been a long-time supporter of Impérieux’s music, his intrepid DJ sets often finding their most dramatic peaks or existential lows with one of the producer's audacious dancefloor soundscapes.

Now Berlin-based, Impérieux’s music draws deeply on the sounds of his heritage, taking inspirations from Bulgarian folklore, twisted and chopped Turkish dialect as well the gritty underground of his new surroundings.
