This is an early live recording from the iconic Japanese noise band "Hijokaidan," also known as the "King of Noise," during their performance at the "Answer 81" event held in a venue called "Kyoto TakuTaku" in 1981. While the recordings of this event were previously included on their 1st album "Zouroku No Kibyou" though it was just a part, it has now been finally made available as a standalone work with the whole recording. It's worth noting that this live performance was a historic moment when The Stalin and Hijokaidan shared the stage for the first time, and 2 years later, both bands formed a collaboration project "Sta-Kaidan".

Kronstadt Uprising took their name from the uprising at the Kronstadt Naval Base in 1921. Lenin referred to the incident as “the flash that lit up reality better than anything else”.

Formed in Southend-On Sea, Essex in 1981, Kronstadt Uprising survived six turbulent years with many members coming and going. However, far from being a negative factor, it produced a very stimulating and creative environment that lead to an ever evolving musical style that can be heard on this CD.

Founder member Steve Pegrum was encouraged by the self-empowerment message and ethos of punk rock. In 1979 he acquired a drum kit and formed several punk bands. By 1981 the scene was starting to fragment. The area of punk that now interested Steve was that which stayed true to the original DIY ethic and this developing scene encouraged Steve to form Kronstadt Uprising.

By November 1981 the band were ready to record. They recorded nine tracks and sent the tape to Crass who decided to use ‘Receiver Deceiver’ on Bullshit Detector Vol. 2, released in September 1982. Also in 1982 the band recorded ‘The Unknown Revolution’ EP under the production of John Loder and Derek Birkett at Southern Studios for Spiderleg Records. The record was eventually released a year later.

Late 1983/1984 saw the band move away from the confines of the current punk scene and concentrate on writing new material. However, after three years various members felt they had progressed as far as they could and in March 1984 they played their final concert in London.

In the Summer of 1984 Steve decided he wanted to continue playing, so a new Kronstadt Uprising emerged with a totally new line-up. In April 1985 they recorded the ‘Part Of The Game’ EP for local Dog Rock Records. The band continued to gig and increased their fan base, but diversifying music tastes within the band took their toll and they eventually decided to call it a day in 1987.

Always true to punk, but never happy being genericised or put into any kind of musical straightjacket, this CD shows the ever-evolving Kronstadt sound.

Limited to 300 copies, the 15 tracks feature both singles, their Bullshit Detector Vol. 2 appearance and seven studio recordings including one previously unreleased, packaged with a 12″ x 12″ insert with previously unseen photos and a detailed history from founder member Steve Pegrum.

Legendary Finnish hardcore punk band Bastards’ discography to be released in a glorious box set in December

Bastards was one of the first Finnish hardcore punk bands coming from Finland in the early 80’s. The band released three albums between 1982-1983: Harhaa (1982, originally only on cassette tape), Järjetön maailma (1983) and Siberian Hardcore (1983). Propaganda Records, the oracle of its time, released the Maailma palaa ja kuolee EP when the band was still active, and some single tracks also appeared on Finnish and international compilations.

Bastards gained international attention and were the first Finnish hardcore band to tour Europe, yet they still ended up quitting the band in December 1983 after just a few active years. Svart Records have now put together all the recorded material by Bastards. Arctic Hardcore – Complete Studio Recordings & Rare Rehearsal Tapes -box set was done as a tight co-operation between the record company and members of the band. The nearly four-hour long compilation contains 136 songs, of which fifty are never released versions or completely unheard material, until now. The box set also contains a thick booklet with the band’s history, lyrics, complete song information and a lot of photos from the band’s active years.

Richmond, Virginia may seem like a surprising location for seismic catalysts, but Hard Copy now joins an elite list of RVA bands moving sound in unexpected and earth shaking directions. Destruction! Invention! Rebirth! Once upon a time there was Honor Role who deconstructed midwest hardcore and carved out a path for what eventually would become mathrock. Combining empathy wrapped in anger, a following generation would use this template to birth post-hardcore and a 2nd wave emotional music. A bit later came Labradford who were atmospheric scientists creating pulsating soundscapes bathed in drone. Their music was so devastatingly unique that Kranky willed themselves into existence to release their debut for which this historic label was built upon and continues to lead the way in experimental music. I can't help but to include Hard Copy among this kind of revelatory innovation. They are subtle shapeshifters of synth driven post-punk. At their core, we find unorthodox art rock for which Talking Heads and Pere Ubu belong, but it is stretched taut like taffy into trance-inducing, long form motorik musings. Singular vocals act as a secondary percussion. Bass lines double as a metronome heartbeat. Guitars zigzag inside a monochromatic prism. Linnear drums hammer the band's abstract narrative into a carefully crafted double-helix staircase spiraling up into ambitious avant-garde territory. Cantankerous poetry minus the Mancunian snarl of Mark E Smith behaves as a modern day deadbeat descendant making good. In short, making very very good. Recorded live at their own studio, Dystopian Dreams was conjured with the help of Fred Forsberg of Mass Worship at the controls, capturing Harmagedon’s wildfire and blending this dense stew together. With the addition of Magnus Lindberg of Cult of Luna mastering it, Dystopian Dreams has that exceptional flavour of a future classic, where all the cogs and wheels of this merciless weapon fire on all cylinders.

Black Sabbath, Entombed, Neurosis & High on Fire spring to mind, as the calibre of Harmadgedon’s riff whirlwind is of the finest quality, the antithesis of royalty but epic and majestic in delivery. Dystopian Dreams’ hulking magnetism leads you expertly to headbang and worship at the altar of timeless metal, without the slightest remnant of doubt.

Songs like Reptilian and Controlled Chaos groove and churn, but pack a hell of a concrete punch, with nihilistic, gravelled guitars and spewing vocals of molten brimstone.

Less than twelve months on from the triumphant rock ’n’ roll record that was Stained Glass, Australia’s most tasteful sonic culinary artiste Jake Robertson serves up The Derivative Sounds Of, another platter in his never-ending, ever-extending Alien Nosejob banquet.

Since initially firing out similar flavors on his first offering, Alien Nosejob has conquered the challenges of disco, hardcore, new wave, rock and roll (all drowned in his characteristically sweet sense of humor) before finally returning back to his musical roots: the jangly, adolescent feel of 1960s garage.

After one of Robertson’s first bands, The Frowning Clouds, reunited for a few shows in September 2022, he found himself digging up old songs and riffs from the period, some spanning back to as early as 2006 and up until around 2012. This record features many of those song ideas—some reworked, some rewritten, some exactly the same. All together now as one hot package.

Leaning into his musical tastes from the Clouds’ period of existence, Robertson digs up inspiration in some teenage staples: The Troggs, Mike Furber, the under-appreciated bands that make up the Shutdown ’66 / Back From The Grave compilations, without overdoing the sugar, salt, MSG, whatever one wants to call it. This record was recorded by Robertson all by his lonesome over a weekend in his garage. There’s no paisley shirts, no skinny-ties, no winkle-pickers, no slim-fit suits and no haircuts—just Robertson and his 1964 MacBook Pro.

Garage rock revival is a sound that’s often overdone, drenched in nostalgia and small-minded attitudes, but this album is not just a throwback to the sounds of yesterday. It doesn’t belong with the golden oldies or the usual garage resuscitations. Goner Records is proud to present, The Derivative Sounds Of, the sixth piece of Alien Nosejob’s eternal buffet and the “all you can eat” of record titles.

This two-volume set of records which represents the complete discography of State of Fear couldn’t have come at a better time with the current hardcore/crust scene in the U.S. on the rise once again. A new generation of punks have scoured the filthy depths of the genre to find the classics, and State of Fear ticks every box of a classic hardcore band. Formed from the ex-members of Disrupt and Deformed Conscious, State of Fear adopted a more streamlined hardcore attack than that of either of their former bands, but kept intact the political and dark themes of the crust bands they had come from. This was hardcore made by fans of Swedish bands like Skitlickers, MOB 47, Anti-cimex, and although they definitely wear their influences on their sleeve, they created a sound which was enigmatically their own. Entering the scene in the heyday of the Minneapolis crust explosion spearheaded by Profane Existence in 1994, they immediately made their mark with powerful live showings and a no-bullshit delivery. Volume 1 includes the self titled debut, and the infamous ‘Wallow in Squalor’ EP’s, State of Fear showcase a devastating combination of speed and memorable riffs not seen by another band in America since. Songs like ‘Blood Thirsty System’, ‘Violation’, ‘Consumption’ emboldened a generation of punks in the 90’s, while confirming their feelings of rage at the political system in place, which sadly still stands today. These songs aren’t going to lose appeal until the blood thirsty system falls. Sonarize Records has added a large format 12 page booklet that includes a biography, interviews, lyrics, and hard to find photos of the band.

Lobsterbomb announce the release of their debut album "Look Out" for 21st July 2023 via Duchess Box Records. Formed in Berlin, via an instagram notice board "We Formed A Band" set up by the band Gurr, Lobsterbomb had no idea at the time it would lead to them signing to the label that discovered Gurr, Duchess Box Records. In addition, there are moments you'll swear you heard a Matt Pike riff or something out of the Nola playbook. With guest spots courtesy of friends Tony Foresta of Municipal Waste and Ken Andrews of Obituary, Watch You Burn is a bonafide rager! Intoxicated took little time off during the pandemic, adding a new guitarist, John Sutton, who is no stranger to the Florida metal scene having spent time with 90's act Pain Principle. In the last 6 months alone, Intoxicated have supported Obituary, Massacre, Nasty Savage, Gruesome, D.R.I., The Casualties, Inhuman Condition and High Reeper. With Andrew WK's disappearance leaving Erik Payne and Gregg Roberts to their own devices, Intoxicated have certainly taken a front seat and there is no sign of slowing down - the band have the pedal to the floor and plan to be out supporting the album all Summer. You can catch them this Summer supporting Obituary and Municipal Waste on select dates as well as Into the Darkness Fest and Full Terror Assault Open Air!

With a mission in mind, Speed is setting out to put Australian hardcore on the map. Formed in 2019, the Sydney-based band has a no-holds-barred approach and enticing sound that makes them standouts in the genre. Composed of vocalist Jem, bassist Aaron Siow, guitarists Josh Clayton and Dennis Vichidvongsa, and drummer Kane Vardon, Speed showcases a tough exterior, but amplifies their sense of identity, and community in everything they do. Following the release of their demo in 2019, the band teamed up with U.S. label Flatspot Records for a two-song EP in 2020 and they joined forces again for Gang Called Speed. Recorded with Elliott Gallart at Chameleon Studios, the six songs on the EP are centered around recognizing who you are in this world, taking ownership of that identity and not letting anyone tell you otherwise. Drawing influence from old-school acts like Biohazard and Merauder just as much as bands like Trapped Under ICE, the band is putting forth pit-ready music.

When you hear of someone in the punk scene putting out solo material, you expect them to pull out the acoustic guitar and channel their softer side. With Tino Valpa it couldn’t be more the opposite. New Hampshire’s one-man powerhouse is here with his first full-length solo album Live Or Be Lived All Over. Tino tackles all duties: guitar, bass, drums and vocals. From the get-go this record is heavier, harder & better structured than its predecessors. Tino’s previous releases in 2010 & 11 were two 7” EPs of blazing old-school hardcore punk with few songs clocking in over the 30 second mark. Since then, Valpa has traveled the world touring in many bands with focuses on other things. In 2022 the solo project will finally to come to light as a live playing, touring band. This self-released album is available on LP, Digipak CD and Cassette).
