During the late 1970s, after No Wave pioneer Lydia Lunch met saxophonist James Chance, she began setting her angry and disjointed poetry to anti-music, founding her ground-breaking band Teenage Jesus and The Jerks with Lunch’s shouted lyrics matched by her non-conventional use of electric guitar. The group’s self-titled debut EP is a fast and furious affair, produced by Robert Quine of the Voidoids/Lou Reed, with future Nick Cave drummer Jim Sclavunos on bass and Bradley Field on minimalist percussion; steeped in aggression and audacity, it’s an awesome disc that rebuffs punk’s easy cliches and refuses to be categorized. This reissue also includes the ‘Pre’ EP and the tracks from the legendary No New York compilation. Essential!

Second album from the Regensburger boys, which seamlessly follows on from their pretty well-celebrated (out of print!) debut! In the wake of the Hamburg Rachut bands (the vocals sometimes sound amazingly like Jens Rachut including his cryptic lyrics) things continue lively in terms of sophisticated, slightly scrappy punk rock with a lot of heart. Sometimes it reminds of Oiro, Turbostaat and Boxhamsters/EA80. There are enough hits with a tricky verse and the best chorus heard in a long time. In general, the album impresses with a lot of variety, and despite the comparisons mentioned, the 12 tracks are independent enough to create their own sound. Great band and great German-speaking punk rock record, no shit!

In the spring of 2019 ShitKid - Åsa Söderqvist and Lina Molarin Ericsson - headed over to the US for a couple of shows at the SXSW festival in Austin, TX but ahead of the festival they managed to squeeze in a couple of days in the studio ' first in LA with the legendary the Melvins and then in Austin with Paul Leary of Butthole Surfers. The new album Duo Limbo/'Mellan himmel å helvete' collects the recordings from these two sessions, half of which are ShitKid's first recordings in their native Swedish ' with a set of four songs to start with the band set out to record them in both English and Swedish, clocking in at just over 26 minutes. It's ShitKid's finest work yet with the duo backed by an all star line-up of Buzz Osborne (Melvins) and Dale Crover (Melvins, Redd Kross) on half of the album and Paul Leary and Josh Freese (NIN, Devo, The Replacements etc) on the other half.

THE KARL HENDRICKS TRIO is a Pittsburgh rock institution. Having released nine full-lengths and six singles of uncompromising, emotionally charged, very loud rock over the course of twenty years, it's probably safe to call them an American rock institution as well. A former bedroom 4-track confessionalist, Karl Hendricks formed the Trio late in 1991. The band has undergone numerous line-up changes since, having had four different drummers, four different bass players, and during the two separate spans when the band augmented to a four-piece dubbed appropriately enough, the Karl Hendricks Rock Band, two different rhythm guitarists. The one constant has been, of course, Karl himself. The Trio debuted on record with 1992's Buick Electra, released on Karl's own Peas Kor label. From the mid '90s to the early 2000s the trio released several albums on Merge Records, and in 2007, Hendricks self-released the one and only Karl Hendricks Rock Band album, The World Says, on his Surplus Anxiety imprint. Comedy Minus One's release of The Adult Section in 2012 officially marks the end of the Karl Hendricks Rock Band Mark II and the return of the stripped-down Trio line-up. Karl's sound and his approach to songwriting have only gotten more nuanced and thoughtful with age. Musically, the Trio remains rooted in a muscular yet melodic sound built on a massive wall of guitars, and a bass and drum assault that powers things forward as much as it anchors them down. It's a straightforward aesthetic but it has allowed Karl's guitar playing to develop into a more sprawling and heroic version of the spirited six-string blasts of his youth. Reissued for first time on vinyl the demo-tape "…Al Servicio" by the Chilean Punk/Oi! band Ocho Bolas! Since its formation in the late '80s, Ocho Bolas has been an emblem of the Punk scene in Valparaíso (Chile). The band was formed in 1988 and they gave their first concert that same year at the Mauri Theater (Valparaíso) when the Punk scene was still a resistance to the fierce Pinochet dictatorship. A year later in 1989 they recorded their first demo-tape "…Al Servicio" which contained 8 songs that were released on cassette by the band themselves (today it is almost impossible to find copies of that first edition). "…Al Servicio" is the closest thing in that corner of the world had to the spirit of the first Hardcore/Punk with direct lyrics and enormous honesty, without any pretension other than to shout about what bothered them and what was different a lot to what was done in Santiago at that same time, both in terms of lyrics and music. Ocho Bolas were much more aggressive and direct than other bands of the time. Already in 1991, they recorded their best-known 12” through the German label DIM Records. 1000 copies were pressed of the Mini-LP "Trabajo Duro" which also included a version of Cock Sparrer converted into “Yo Quiero a Mi País”. But that is another story… Deluxe edition with gatefold cover and insert including lyrics, cuts and old photos. For the EU version of the album 300 copies have been pressed on black vinyl and 100 on baby blue vinyl (this colour version includes an A2 poster as extra).

Brutal Siegers is ready to attack again, with their first full-length. The band from the wastelands of Barcelona, was formed in the end of 2020 by people from bands like Brux, Acero Condal, Area De Combate, Barbarians, just to mention a few... They successfully released their first two 7-inch "Comte Estruch" (Common People Records, 2021) and "Caras Sucias" (Common People Records, 2023) and in the summer of 2023 they recorded at Bonzo Recordings these 10 new tracks, which in our opinion beats the previous ones. The album starts off by shitting on everything and everyone in just over 3 minutes with "Hate The World". They continue kicking ass with "Remença", "Hijos de la destrucción" (the title track), "Serpientes Sin Fe" and "Fuck You Working Class" which clearly follow in the path of their first two EPs.

You probably forgot about Rouge. That’s understandable. It’s been two long years since these Berlin punks dropped their debut cassette. But the folks who were paying attention knew better. There was enough promise in that 2022 release to suggest they had more up their sleeve, and it was clearly just a matter of time before they were ready to share it. Well, that time has come. Once again they’re teaming up with Phantom Records, this time making things official with their first vinyl release. They’ve seemingly spent these last couple of years honing their craft--across the eight tracks on this release, they sound much more confident, bolstered by a production that’s a little more polished, though not necessarily slick. Still, they manage to make this a distinctly Rouge-ish affair, mixing the frenetic pre-hardcore punk of the Bags with the drippy garage of Thee Oh Sees and a heaping helping of contemporary Aussie-styled, po-faced post-punk/new wave and anchored by excellent guitar work and an energetic vocal performance. The Bratislava-based band 52 Hertz Whale release their new album Present Sense Impression in a collaboration of the labels Weltschmerzen and Full Moon Forum.

Three years since their album I've Met a Lot of People, the band brings forth a lot of new ideas, finding a new resonant space, and utilising the fierceness // savageness of their live shows, in an intimate stare at contemporary guitar music.

52 Hertz Whale is a band well known in the Central European music context. Their ferocious sound, mixing the intensity of post-punk, heavy guitar wails, and melancholic // stark vocals of Dominik Prok has been tearing down the fixtures of many festivals and venues, all the while being a great example of a band driving at 200mph nonstop. On Present Sense Impression, the band, composed of Dominik Prok, Dominik Fabian, Patrik Nagy, Tomáš Tabiš and Adrián Krišák, have arrived at a record full of manifold manifestations of their live sound, but at times recalling the more marginal waves of 80s pop // rock sound. Resolute drums, heavyweight guitar and bass riffs now deem closer to the lightness of early ethereal darkwave, just to indulge in the classic melancholic heaviness they are known for only seconds after.

Some of the songs have been produced by "Prague's favorite rock'n'roll enfant terrible" Lazer Viking as well as Pulp Studio's Jakub Hríbik, and one features a special guest - the cemballo virtuoso Marcel Comendant. The traditionally stunning artwork was created by the accomplished Martin Mesaroš.

Present Sense Impression is the 20th album released under the Slovak romantic // experimental label Weltschmerzen focused on emotionally hypercharged, humanely intertwined, and acutely sounding contemporary music. This time in collaboration with the czech label Full Moon Forum. It releases August 26th on limited edition baby pink, standard edition black vinyl and on all streaming platforms.

The creation and release of this record have been supported using public funding by the Slovak Arts Council, and Soza. Fullmoon Forum project was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.

Step TO Freedom is a Russian band that began their difficult journey in a land that doesn't want them at the beginning of the last decade and that defines itself as Crust punk underground front! Against state control! They released their first self produced cassette "Social Zombies" in 2014, later reissued by Audacious Madness Records (U.S.A.) together with their second album called "Cemetery For The Humaniknd" (originally out in 2018 on Makima Records, also from Russia) in 2021. After one EP on tape and a 7", both respectively released in 2019 and 2023 by Blown Out Media Records (U.S.A.), they are back with what, in my opinion, is their best release so far. The monolithic sound of their new recordings suggests a maturation of the group both from a compositional point of view and from that of awareness of the use of effects and mastery of the instruments they play. I felt like a tank had rolled over my back after I first listened to this album. Granitic stench core meets crust core with a touch of death metal here and there all packed in a clear recording which allows us to imagine the difficult moment that the guys are going through, forced into the prison of the institutions that govern their state. Fans of Amebix, Axegrinder, Deviated Instinct, Hellshock and Instinct Of Survival will love this.

14 month after their debut album, the Berlin based horrorific stench core army is back with a new four tracks Mini LP. The songs are longer, heavier and gloomier than the ones on the previous release but they don't lose their violence, power and speed. Elements of black metal pop up between the heavier classic stenchy parts and the faster crustcore ones. Listening to this new songs makes me think these guys are definitely sitting on the throne of Olympus of crust! What a hell of a fucking release! I just can't wait to listen to the next one.

Very little is known about He who cannot be named's actual identity. Some say he is a high ranking corrupt GOP politician, or an undercover agent for a foreign government. He has been banned from venues al over the world and Interpol reportedly has an ongoing warrant out for his immediate arrest on undisclosed charges. He rarely appears in public and very few have seen him without a mask. There have been numerous reports of Hewho impersonators spotted all over the world, especially when The Dwarves play live shows. It has even been suggested that He Who Cannot Be Named does not really and is in fact merely a rock legend. Perhaps Hewho himself is an imposter. We will probably never know for sure.

The Weasel Walter Large Ensemble debuted on Igneity - After The Fall Of Civilization (april 2015): Brandon Lopez and Tim Dahl on double bass, Alan Licht, Henry Kaiser and Chris Welcome on guitars, the quartet sax of Chris Pitsiokos, Jim Sauter, Matt Nelson and Michael Foster, Steve Swell on trombone, Peter Evans on trumpet and Dan Peck on tuba.

“‘Igneity’ was composed in response to Henry Kaiser asking me if I would assemble a big band, rather than a small group, for us to play a concert with in New York. I had previously included him in the large ensembles I had led when I lived in Oakland, California. However, I had not yet tackled the format in New York City. There is certainly no shortage of excellent players around here, but unlike the Bay Area, logistics tend to be somewhat more complicated, especially when it comes to rehearsal. As such, I set about devising an hour long structure which would allow me to control the general momentum and the various densities inherent in the orchestration while granting the individuals maximum freedom.”

Issued on the independent Volume label as usual, third album Idle Gossip continued in the same mould as their first two LPs with ‘Geordie’s Gone To Jail,’ ‘Keith’s A Thief,’ ‘Silly Billy’ and the title track all cracking numbers built on Olga and company’s irresistible charm; ‘I’ll Get Even With Steven’ even gives a po-faced punk nod to Elvis.
