Known for their positive and progressive lyrics, 7seconds also became one of the first in the genre to address racism, homophobia, and sexism with songs such as "Not Just Boys Fun", "Colourblind", and "I Have a Dream," which are all found on this album. "The Crew" also includes their hit "Young till I Die," a staple in their set from 1984 when "The Crew" was released until 2018, when the band officially disbanded. This masterpiece has been remastered by David Gardner from the original analog tapes. It has been repackaged as a gatefold featuring a beautiful 20-page full-color book on the oral history of the band from inception Through the making of The Crew. It includes insights from the likes of Ian MacKaye, Jello Biafra, Keith Morris, and many others, as well as unpublished flyers, photos, and other fun little trinkets. The album cover was designed and drawn by the band in the back of the tour bus. Rock for Light is the second full-length album by Bad Brains, released in 1983. It was produced by Ric Ocasek of The Cars. We're proud to present the original mix of the album, for the first time in decades, as the band originally intended. Most fans will be more familiar with the 1991 reissue, which was remixed by Ocasek. Version used an altered track order, significantly different mixes and a speed increase of the master which results in a raising of the pitch by one-half step.

This reissue marks the fourth release in the remaster campaign, re-launching the Bad Brains Records label imprint. In coordination with the band, Org Music has overseen the restoration and remastering of the iconic Bad Brains' recordings. The audio was mastered by Dave Gardner at Infrasonic Mastering and pressed at Furnace Record Pressing.

The Gordons crashed upon the do-it-yourself scene of early 1980s Christchurch with torrential force, self-releasing two foundational planks of the vibrant New Zealand underground. Future Shock, a three-song 7-inch released in 1980, is a wild-eyed rampage, as staggering as any feedback-addled punk then being recorded at Southern Studios. The Gordons LP, which followed in 1981, matches the abandon with motorik churn and livewire dissonance, evoking New Zealand antecedents as divergent as This Kind Of Punishment and the Dead C. Brought together on this release, they’re a noise-rock landmark anticipating fans such as Sonic Youth. Flying Nun Records, the storied Christchurch label and symbol of the island nation’s rich independent music scene, re-released The Gordons and Future Shock together in 1988 following the formation of Gordons outgrowth Bailter Space, which frontman Alister Parker founded with Clean drummer Hamish Kilgour. Bailter Space, which would also come to include founding Gordons members Brent McLachlan and John Halvorsen, settled on a droning shoegaze sound, drawing comparisons to Dinosaur Jr. and the Pixies. The Gordons and Future Shock, however, represent the trio’s unreformed id, as startling today as upon release.

“Prior to forming the Gun Club, Jeffrey Lee Pierce (1958-1996) fronted The Red Lights. While 1980 is viewed as ground zero for Pierce’s career—his autobiography Go Tell The Mountain starts with the founding of the Gun Club—Pierce was active as a rock critic for Slash magazine and had started songwriting years earlier. Throughout the late 1970s, Pierce’s primary musical interests were power pop and reggae. He was the president of the Blondie fan club and had interviewed Burning Spear. So when the Red Lights, Pierce’s first serious attempt at forming a band, started rehearsing it’s unsurprising that power pop (with a hint of reggae) was the group’s musical direction. “The Red Lights existed throughout 1978. The lineup for the band’s debut show on July 14, 1978—opening for The Germs and The Middle Class at the Whisky—was Jeffrey Lee Pierce (vocals and guitar), Anna Statman (bass), Vitus Mataré (keyboards) and Jack Reynolds (drums). Mataré and Reynolds were members of The Last; Anna Statman was a contributing writer to Pleasant Gehman’s Lobotomy fanzine. This lineup was short-lived. Mataré dropped out afterwards; Jack Reynolds stuck around a little longer. Thanks to Flipside’s gig reviews, it’s known that the Red Lights played at least two more shows: one at The Arena in Culver City and another one at The Rock Corporation in Van Nuys on August 9, 1978, opening up for The Weasels. By the end of 1978, Pierce had moved to New York City, effectively ending the Red Lights “At some point in the second half of 1978, The Red Lights recorded a demo. Little is known about the session. Mataré had already left the band, Statman vaguely remembers recording it. Unfortunately, Jack Reynolds passed away in 2009. The Red Lights were obscure; people familiar with the band were likely committed Gun Club fans. Few were aware that this demo tape existed; those who had a cassette copy likely received it from Pierce directly. “Fast forward four decades and what’s surprising about the Red Lights’ material is how advanced Pierce’s songwriting was at 19 years old—the songs’ dynamic range, that voice—this is clearly the Gun Club’s Jeffrey Lee Pierce. Teenanger Turns A BAD Time Into A Good Time. Teenanger was on the edge of a precipice in the spring of 2018. It had been a weird year. The band had just completed the promotional cycle for Teenager, a sprawling, diverse and pseudo-self-titled 2017 album that was an uncanny reflection of Teenanger’s pending restlessness.

Teenager’s release also marked the end of the band’s first decade together. With a lineup unchanged since its inception, the members had become inseparable companions, and their then-new album was a testament to all this.

The corresponding tour was celebratory, culminating in a near-rapturous performance at Sappyfest 12 in a Nova Scotia Legion hall. The band was anxious to get back to Toronto and start working on new material, channeling all the positivity and inspiration from the last 12 months and turning it into an album to be proud of.

Instead, they found themselves creatively empty, convalescent from a months-long case of writer’s block that was unexpectedly placing Teenanger’s existence in jeopardy. They talked about adding additional members. They talked about breaking up. They struggled to figure out where the malaise was coming from. In the end, it boiled down to physical space.

Teenanger had been rehearsing in the same room for years now, sharing it with a revolving door of local musicians and toiling within the confines of a twice-a-week jam schedule. It was the literal definition of routine. The space was so firmly rooted in Teenanger’s past that it was sabotaging its future. It was time to move.

One Craigslist ad stood out among a sea of online postings. It was tersely written, and incorrectly listed as an apartment for rent, but two words stood out: “Music OK.” This was enough to prompt a viewing the very next day, and before the band members had a chance to second-guess themselves, a lease was signed. The space was christened “Studio Z,” a basement that spent its early years doubling as a reggae studio and after-hours club, run by the son of the restaurant owner upstairs. It was then left vacant, a space for rats and spiders to coexist in subterranean harmony. It wasn’t pretty nor was it safe, but it was affordable, drenched in vibe and offering the one thing their previous spot could not: change.

Teenanger moved in and immediately started working. Studio Z’s setup allowed them to install a fully-functional recording studio adjacent to its claustrophobic live room. Songs were roughly sketched and immediately captured, allowing unlimited creative flexibility as they multi-tracked, edited and reconstructed them into album-ready material. Little did they know, this newfound freedom would be a tradeoff for the perpetual complications Studio Z would create.

It seemed that as soon as one problem was solved, another would arise. The band dealt with vermin, two major floods, constant mold and a CO2 leak that, if left unchecked, could have killed the 20 people living and working in the building’s vicinity. Through it all, Teenanger continued to work. This album was shaping up to be different. Special. These things couldn’t get in the way.

Two weeks before the record was completed, the building’s hydro was cut off indefinitely. This would prove to be the final straw. When power was restored, Teenanger returned to Studio Z one last time. They made their final tweaks, sent the files to Sandro Perri for mixing, disassembled the studio and left for good. The two-year saga that led to the creation of Good Time is Teenanger boiled down to its very essence. A lean and muscular eight-song album that is the sound of a band who simultaneously has everything and nothing to prove. It’s what happens when seasoned songwriters flex their chops in an environment that fosters boundless creativity. It is also Teenanger’s most fun album. Choruses soar to previously unattained heights, descending to the rhythmically fertile ground to pull earworms that will stick inside listeners’ heads for days. If its songs were citizens, they would reside in a diplomatically neutral city-state, melting pots of art rock, pop, dub, post-punk and new wave.

The music of Good Time certainly elicits pleasure, but lyrically things are more weighty. The band does not shy away from its commentary on contemporary issues. There are calls to reject societal norms, ruminations on humanity’s obsession with technology and warnings about our impact on the environment. Teenanger never gets too earnest, delivering everything with an irreverence that has been there since day one.

Good Time captures a pivotal point for Teenanger. The decision was made to take a leap of faith, leaving the confines of their past and moving into a space they could call their own. This allowed the band members to embrace a new way of making music and existing together. They may have almost died in Studio Z, instead, they were reborn.

East London record shop World of Echo debuts on the other side of the counter with a reissue of Two Wishes, the solitary 12" by Anglo-German collective, Mutabor!. Seemingly lost to time, Mutabor! were first brought to World of Echo's attention when drummer/singer, Gary Asquith, played at the shop's first birthday celebrations while promoting one of his other bands, Rema Rema. And so the story goes... Mutabor! emerged wraith-like from the monochromatic grit of Berlin's art punk underground late in 1981 when Asquith left London to set up temporary residence in the city following a chance meeting with Malaria's Bettina Koster backstage at a Birthday Party gig at the Lyceum earlier that year. Beguiled by the possibilities of collaboration, musical and otherwise, he was soon to make his own contributions to what was an already fecund scene. Partnering with Koster, and Gudrun Gut and Manon Duursma also of Malaria!, Mutabor! were publicly birthed via an impromptu performance at punk rock polestar the Risiko. Asquith found himself playing percussion in what would be a first, while the rest of the band ossified in front of him in typically idealistic post-punk democracy. Little documentation of the performance survives beyond that which exists in the memories of those playing - that itself shaky enough - though there was clearly sufficient encouragement for them to commit to a recording session. Later that winter, the four booked time at Music Lab, the studio operated by Harris Johns, for what would ultimately be their only studio visit. Two songs were laid to tape, and soon after a photoshoot was to take place at Koster's flat, resulting in a handful of images that, along with the music, comprise the sum total evidence of the band's existence. 1001 Nights and Treats both found their way to Peter Kent, a co-founder of 4AD who had recently left the label with the ambition of starting his own imprint. Entitled Two Wishes, the two track 12" was to be the first and only release on Loaded. It seems that Mutabor! were to represent a series of firsts and lasts, a trend that continues now as they open the World of Echo imprint. It's fitting to think of Mutabor! in these prescient terms given how they sounded. Berlin at that time shared a spiritual axis with New York, the conceptual & aesthetic discordance of no wave and a nascent off-beat dance culture underpinning much of the respective creative activity. There are shared signifiers, but even in that context, Two Wishes sounds oddly out of step, moving to its own unusual rhythm. 1001 Nights stutters along on a tribal beat that seems to run independent of skronking sax, spidery guitar lines and deadpan vocal incantations, the ghosts of two songs meeting in some kind of incompatible voodoo union. On the reverse, Treats slows down and dims the lights further, as Asquith sardonically recites desirous threats as an increasingly malevolent sax and guitar grinds behind him. No surprise the darkness within the music given the parent bands and the backdrop of a crepuscular early 80s Berlin, though there remains a complex compositional element to these songs that suggests a broader spectrum of emotion - desire, romance, and ultimately, infinite possibility. Recut and mastered, Two Wishes is now presented with the original front cover artwork alongside additional imagery, including a 16 page booklet, all culled from Asquith's own archive. A brief bolt of energy at a crucial juncture in music history, Mutabor!'s story is emblematic of the mutli-verse of post-punk and the creativity its ideology necessitated.

Adventurous southern California punk trio Agent Orange was the first band to mix surf rock with punk. The group was formed in1l979 in Placentia, a small town close to Fullerton and Anaheim, by frontman Mike Palm on guitar and lead vocals, Steve Soto on bass and Scott Miller on drums. That early line up recorded the classic version of "Bloodstains" in 1979 as a demo produced by Daniel R. van Patten (of the group Berlin). A year later it was included on the seminal Rodney On The Roq compilation album released by Posh Boy Records. Meanwhile James Levesque had replaced Steve Soto (Adolescents) and the new line up released their own self produced and self released 7" ep in 1980. A year later, the group signed with Robbie Fields' Posh Boy Records for their debut LP Living In Darkness, co-produced by Fields and former Simpletones guitarist Jay Lansford. The album was recorded at Brian Elliott’s store front studio in North Hollywood (a few years before Elliott struck gold writing Madonna’s “Papa Don’t Preach”). How often does the leader of one of your favorite bands ask you to do a split album? Where his band covers your songs? Singer-songwriter Frank Turner found himself in that situation last year, when Fat Mike of Nofx asked if he wanted to do a split covers album. West Coast vs. Wessex shows Nofx filtering five of Frank Turner’s songs through their singular sensibility, with Turner doing the same on five Nofx songs. But these aren’t simply double-time versions of Turner’s folk-punk tunes or slow, acoustic reworkings of Nofx’s iconic SoCal punk anthems. Both Nofx and Frank Turner took time to play with the possibilities each other’s music presented. They also put a lot of thought into the songs they chose to cover. Both groups really wanted to songs that presented an opportunity to create something unique, and bring something to the song that really made it their own. For Frank Turner’s side, the result was a tracklist that pulls more or less from deeper in Nofx’s discography. Nofx classic “Bob” being the exception, Turner transforms into a wistful country song. “Perfect Government” is joyously turned into a barroom singalong, along with a punked up “Scavenger Type,” the post-hardcore “Eat the Meek,” and a spare, haunting “Falling in Love.” On the Nofx side, their climactic take on “Substitute” could’ve fit on Punk in Drublic. “Worse Things Happen at Sea” simmers with an ominous portent. The jaunty “Thatcher Fucked the Kids” sounds like a companion to Nofx’s “Philthy Phil Philanthropist.” “The Ballad of Me and My Friends,” lilting and bittersweet in Frank Turner’s original, goes balls-out here. “Glory Hallelujah” sounds like a lost track from Fat Mike’s stage musical, Home Street Home. There is no loser on West Coast Vs. Wessex. The Frank Turner-Fat Mike Mutual Admiration Society has produced 10 hooky reimaginings of each other’s music. The novelty may pique listeners’ curiosity, but the songs will keep them coming back.

Founded in 1982, the CRACK didn't release their debut album until 1989. These British punkers were often tied into the Oi! scene of the mid-80s along with Cockney Rejects, and The Business, they had more in common with the melodic punk stylings of 999 and mod groups like The Jam or Secret Affair. Dark Entries and Sacred Bones team up to release the early discography of UK synth-punk and Deathrock label Outer Himmalayan Records. Between 1979 and 1982, Nick Blinko and Martin Cooper’s Outer Himmalayan Records released 7-inches by three short-lived bands – The Magits, Soft Drinks, and S-Haters – who would nonetheless cast a massive shadow on the UK’s burgeoning post-punk/anarcho punk scene. Outer Himmalayan Presents collects all of the music found on those original records, along with rare and unreleased tracks by all three bands. It’s a snapshot of a period of frenzied creativity by some of the UK’s most thrilling experimental punks.

Before Blinko went on to found the essential anarcho band Rudimentary Peni, whose storied body of work also appeared on Outer Himmalayan, he and label co-founder Cooper were The Magits. The lone release by the minimal synth-and-vocals duo, Fully Coherent, was the inaugural release on Outer Himmalayan — and, in fact, Blinko and Cooper’s impetus for starting the label. The four tracks on Fully Coherent are short, sharp bursts, comprising a total of four minutes. Here, they’re presented alongside the five-and-a-half minute “A Pawn in the Game,” a song that sees Blinko and Cooper get truly weird with the extra space the longer runtime afforded them.

The next release on Outer Himmalayan was S-Haters’ Death of a Vampire 7", which the quartet quickly followed with Stories as Cold as the Irish Sea. The band was recognizably a deathrock act, their gothic punk in the same lineage as Joy Division and PIL’s Metal Box, but it showed the same sonic adventurousness that characterized the rest of Outer Himalayan’s output. “1980,” an oddity taken from the rare Another Bouquet on the Grave of Free Enterprise cassette comp, shows the most experimental flourish, with dueling male/female vocals and a prominent acoustic guitar.

The final Outer Himmalayan release before it became strictly a Rudimentary Peni label was Soft Drinks’ Popstars in Their Pyjamas 7". All songs have been mastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. Cover artwork features a collage by Eloise Leigh and each copy includes a 20-page zine featuring liner notes and ephemera associated with the original pressings plus never before seen photos.
