The highly anticipated instrumental component to Damu the Fudgemunk and Raw Poetic's Dec. 2017 album, "The Reflecting Sea: Welcome to a New Philosophy" is finally being released on vinyl. Beautifully packaged with it's own new cover art and on duo-tone sea blue colored vinyl, collectors expectations are sure to be impressed. In it's entirety, the multi genre fusing and palette expanding art exhibition is available in high fidelity stereo. Produced exclusively by the artists, the instrumental album "The Reflecting Sea" revisits sonic textures of yesteryear and combined with their own distinct ears for music, create something uniquely foreign for the music world in our time. Experience a pioneering journey complements of hip hop's most progressive minds.

Although known primarily as hip hop acts, both Damu and Raw P stretched out to expand what the genre is known for. The combination of elements from the mix of live instrumentation, improvisation and sampling to the range of styles including jazz, fusion, rock, electronic and soul make The Reflecting Sea unlike anything else. Captured and recorded in it's rawest form, the album is honest expression. Masterminding the festival of sounds is Damu the Fudgemunk. Voices may be absent from theses recordings, but artisanship is immediately undeniable throughout the almost 40 minute LP. Packed with tons of beats, original compositions, upbeat and signature atmosphere, there's no question who's behind the boards. With the average tempo of over 100bpm, this is one of the most energetic releases in Redefinition's catalog. Raw P and the Fudgemunk aim to revitalize listeners of all types with their original sound. They call it "The Reflecting Sea: Welcome to a New Philosophy."

Following up his now sold out Redef debut (1996 Beat Tape, Vol 1), veteran producer DJ Spinna returns with another wave of hard hitting instrumentals. Entitled, Unpicked Treats Volume 2, the “Jigmasta” Spinna has prepared the second of an ongoing series of beats that all have a similar story. Making tracks for well over 2 decades, this latest project features a small collection of beats that were created with the intention of backing MC’s and vocalists, but were never officially used. Rather than archiving the material, DJ Spinna realized his fan base would appreciate these compositions in instrumental form. After all, he is the same producer who has garnered respect from the likes of J Dilla, Pete Rock, Jazzy Jeff and yes, the one & only Stevie Wonder himself. Without giving too much of his process away, Spinna challenged himself using a mix at the latest cutting edge software in tandem with some of his favorite gear from over the years. The end result is a glimpse into the spontaneous execution of top notch creativity. Listeners will have an unobstructed view into the ears and mind of the artist. Employing several different approaches, Unpicked Treats Volume 2 maintains a consistent vibe throughout its songs. Whether, you love beat tapes, instrumental music or are entertained by the art of sampling, this record is a commodity.

The lead single from the highly sought-after “Travel At Your Own Pace” features the exclusive, previously unreleased B-side, “Pyramids”. This song includes a rare vocal appearance from Damu The Fudgemunk.

This the song's first official reissue and its first appearance pressed on a 45. Both songs packaged in full color double sided cover art.

Known to many as the group Y Society, Insight the Truncator and Damu the Fudgemunk celebrate 10 plus years of friendship and a creative partnership that hold the two in high esteem of their fans. The MC & producer's new 7" is a compelling display of why the duo have always been at the top of their game despite their reserved output since debuting as a team in 2007.

Surprising the world at the top of the year with their full length, "Ears Hear Spears" was a great way to sound the alarm for the excitement of new activity. Selective by nature, Insight and Damu's calculations have served advantageous in making moves and presenting listeners with the right music at the right time. The latest incarnation of this truth can be heard in the previously unreleased b-side track entitled "Pyramids to the Ghetto." Although it was recorded in 2008, it was archived and remained unreleased until now. Now in 2017 this particular song couldn't be any more relevant in how the artists analyze the effects racism of the past & present and its correlation to black plight throughout the Americas (both Insight & Damu drop verses on this track).

Continuing narratives of such legends as Public Enemy and Jeru the Damaja in which the track title quotes, the group individually presents short essays in rhyme form that give a candid account of what they've witnessed as black U.S. citizens living in the 20th and 21st Century. Not only are the social effects on the table for examination, but the positive and negative impacts a racist society has had on black contributions to art and culture are discussed. For the songwriters, "Pyramids to the Ghetto" is therapeutic in which harsh realities are confronted in an unapologetic manner contrasting the previous socially charged material in Insight and Damu's back catalog.

For the listeners, it's a history lesson and a call to motivate us all that history doesn't always have to repeat itself even when it's been the norm for centuries. Adversity and oppression historically have hold some back and made some stronger, but acknowledgement is the first step of progression.

The A-Side, "Never Off (On & On)" speaks on just that. It's a roadmap to dealing with everyday adversity, maintaining faith in self and striving to reach your full potential. Insight presents sermons of encouragement to the everyday person over the Fudgemunk's uplifting beat. The producer chimes in on the chorus with a few words of his own that insists to keep on your path and never fall off. The old saying goes, "Life ain't easy", but the group knows success is not unrealistic. "Never Off (On & On)" was the debut single from the debut album, "Travel at Your Own Pace" which has remained a staple in Insight the Truncator's and Damu the Fudgemunk's legacy.

Redefinition HHV Records

Redefinition Records is an American Hip hop record label based in Washington, D.C., founded in 2007 by John Notarfrancesco (JNOTA), Al Lindstrom and David Anthony Willis (Ski Beatz). Initially it was more of an artist management type of company, but they grew into a full service record label over the years. Al Lindstrom and Ski left the company after some time. In their place Earl Davis (Damu the Fudgemunk) was co-owner of Redefinition Records. Notarfrancesco and Davis are very hands on and believe in the do-it-yourself approach to all aspects of their company. Their motto is “Quality Over Quantity” and the priority is to only release great records. »Our thoughts are that we should only put out records that we ourselves would actually want to buy and own if another label was releasing them«, as he confirmed in an interview. While Redefinition Records is modest. Everything is tackeled with a certain serenity and tranquility, without a lot of hype and screaming. They let the music speak for itself. Recently they expanded and added a partner label to their mix, Kev Brown’s Low Budget Records, that still sharpens the portfolio of the label which operates in Washington, D.C. and New Jersey.
