Form In Motion moves from a confrontation with the limits of reality to a state of catharsis, self-government and independence through a process of growth and transformation; the timeline of AUTARKH III moves in the opposite direction but is also occurring in the present, in an attempt to counter the linearity of man's perception of existence. The trio reinterpreted, rearranged and inverted their existing work and added a new composition inspired by the essay collection 'Tijd van onbehagen' by Dutch philosopher Ad Verbrugge, which also features glimpses back to Nienhuis's former band Dodecahedron.AUTARKH III focuses on ambient and drone atmospheres, alternated with sections that are leaning more towards improvisation and heavier down-tempo arrangements. Subtle glitches and dreamy atmospheres are countered with subcutaneous growly whispers and bursts of harmonic epiphanies, only to be brought down by the inevitable doom that the inverted timeline prescribes.Michel comments: "This year's unique edition of Roadburn provides us with an exceptionally fitting opportunity to show the two current faces of the Autarkh project: a metal band and a trio. The music of AUTARKH III is generally a more introverted circular recreation of the songs on Autarkh's album Form In Motion and can be interpreted as an inverted timeline of the album."

Another band slated to appear in 2020, Tau & the Drones of Praise participated in Roadburn Redux back in April, helping to tide us over in yet another year with no physical edition of the festival. Their hypnotic neo-folk performance featured an appearance from Clannad's Pól Brennan, and dived headfirst into their back catalogue of psychedelic delights. No-one could accuse them of phoning it in.We're thrilled to announce that this acid-tinged psych troupe will be packing up and heading to Tilburg in April, led by Dubliner Sean Mulrooney. Bringing along a suitcase full of extrasensory delights and magic potions, no doubt, Tau & the Drones of Praise will be setting up shop and handing out feel good vibes like nobody's business. Expect to leave this earthly plane and head out on a meditative voyage of sonic discovery - Sean will be our guide through shamanic experimentalism, folk-led flourishes and far out lysergic luminance. Having already wowed the crowds at highly regarded festivals throughout Europe, such as Liverpool Psych Fest and Le Guess Who? we're beyond excited to be one of the first stops on their return to the live stage. COMMISSIONED: Dead Neanderthals performing IXXODead Neanderthals were due to celebrate their tenth anniversary at the ill-fated 2020 edition of Roadburn Festival, with a series of special sets and collaborations that highlighted exactly why they are such an enduring and captivating part of the Dutch underground music scene. With those plans shelved, at least for now, you'd be forgiven for thinking things have been quiet at Dead Neanderthals HQ.On the contrary - with the irrepressible duo bursting at the seams with creative ideas, we knew they'd be perfect candidates for one of the all new commissioned projects for Roadburn Redux. At the time of writing this, the project is still being developed but already has us hooked, keen to find out exactly what's in store come April. Otto and René have teamed up with Dutch singer/songwriter Aafke Romeijn, and Jonge Woudloper, one of the musicians in Aafke's band, to create IXXO.Each letter of the title represents one of the key participants, who will join together to perform a brand new Krautrock-inspired composition, heavy on the synths but promising warmth and depth. The spark for this collaboration dates back to 2012 when Aafke toured in the UK with Dead Neanderthals, and nine years later, the stars have aligned for this specific bit of magic to be made a reality.We asked them for more insight on IXXO and this is what they told us:"For this commissioned piece we've got one thing to say and we're gonna stick to it. IXXO is all about creating a headspace that enables you to get lost in the music and making the micro-movements feel like major changes. For each of us this means extreme restraint and perseverance at the same time. None of us has a traditional musical role in this piece to fall back on, so all expression is aimed at strengthening the central core of what IXXO is."Getting lost in music sounds exactly like what we need right now, so count us in.
