This latest limited 7" from Mr. K features two incomparable baroque soul masterworks, one from a Chicago-based band that defied categorization and the other a deep cut from a living legend songwriter and performer.

The psychedelic soul of Rotary Connection’s “I Am the Black Gold of the Sun” still sounds revolutionary and unlike anything else, a full fifty years after it was originally released in 1971. Swathed in ethereal ripples of strings (courtesy the Chicago Symphony Orchestra) innovatively arranged by unsung genius Charles Stepney, and rooted in a rock solid foundation provided by the cream of Chicago’s cutting edge session musicians (among them guitarist Phil Upchurch and drummer Morris Jennings, veterans of countless soul jazz cuts), “Black Gold” sits in uncharted territory somewhere between soul, rock, jazz and classical chamber music. It’s a gorgeous territory, a fantasy land where Minnie Riperton and Sidney Barnes’s vocals transmit mystical, uplifting vibes, the entire affair anchored throughout by an addictive piano riff—a mixture that proved irresistible to Masters at Work, who covered it for their Nuyorican Soul project in 1997. Mr. K’s edit doesn’t try to force anything fancy on this masterpiece, simply tightening it up and taking advantage of the lush remastering to present this progressive classic on 45 for the first time.

In keeping with the orchestral soul mood, Mr. K turns to Stevie Wonder’s “Pastime Paradise” for the flip. Whereas “Black Gold” paints a portrait of a magical land, Stevie’s lyrics on “Pastime Paradise,” originally issued in 1976, are a penetrating look at the very earthbound concerns of modern society and its follies, an urgent message to look ahead rather than languish in dreams of the past. The sensitive string accompaniment provides just the right amount of gravitas and emphasis to Stevie’s voice without overwhelming it, while the hare krishna-inspired tambourine keeps the rhythm effectively. Mr. K’s edit again keeps things true to the original, simply providing a subtle intro that uses the tambourine rhythm to lead into the body of the song.

On June 16th, 2018, the adventurous UK avant-garde act Renaldo & The Loaf (first introduced to the world by The Residents through their label Ralph Records) took to the stage to perform their music live for the first time in their then thirty-eight year career! An audience of 250 lucky fans witnessed this at Replugged, a club on Lerchenfelder Strasse in Vienna, Austria.

Side A is a fuzz- dirge cover of The Eagles' late-70s yacht rock classic – heavily inspired by Lou Reed's 2013 cover of Solsbury Hill. Side B is a re-imagining of 'Body Memory', the second single off Jess's 2020 album 'Distance'. This very different version plants the song in a field of echoey guitars, gentle synths and ambient street noise – including cameos by a baby and a nail gun.

Duran Duran's Bond theme, A View To A Kill, is covered here by The Wedding Present's long-term bassist, LA-based Terry de Castro in aid of the 'Campaign Against Living Miserably' (CALM). The original version of Spangle was featured on The Wedding Present's 1994 album Watusi and has been beautifully covered by Terry on this previously unheard version.

Now more so than ever, leading to life in a post-pandemic world, the gap in behaviour between on-screen personalities & the same people In The Flesh has never been greater! “Is your lighting right, will you swipe tonight? Never in The Flesh” With angst laden vocals laid over the rhythmic urgency of the bass and drums, this is a Baby Strange song that will strike hard with the bands ever increasing fan base. Picking the song for the session, Johnny Madden remembers: After signing with ICEA, I was browsing their catalogue and just fell in love with Nicky William, his baritone voice and his style is so unique. I came across Pathetic Fuck and just knew we had to do it. It went so well in fact, that Baby Strange recorded their version in the studio, with Chris Marshall (Gerry Cinnamon), and release it to their fans as a collectors edition single for Record Store Day 2021. Fans can expect a stripped back punk purist aesthetic blended with the undoubtedly Baby Strange style that their fans have come to expect.

The Alarm release the Spirit Of ’58 EP for RSD 2021.

A three-track limited edition 45 that is the official song for the WALES National football team as they head into this summer’s EURO 2020 Tournament.

Wales kick off their campaign against Switzerland on June 12th 2021, the very same day as Record Store Day 2021 with The Alarm capturing the atmosphere and spirit of the Wales fans through the sure to be terrace anthems 'RED WALL OF CYMRU’ and ‘RED DRAGON TATTOO. These are joined by a reworking of the band’s classic Spirit Of ’76 as SPIRIT OF ’58’, which lyrically celebrates Wales only World Cup Tournament [which also happened to be the first ever such event back in 1958 when Wales made it to the quarter finals only to be knocked by Brazil and a goal scored by the soon to be legendary PELE.]

The Alarm Spirit of ’58 is sure to appeal to Alarm fans around the world and fans and supporters of the WALES team.

These recordings are unique to the EP as they are the original demonstration versions and therefore even more collectible for fans and supporters alike.

Record Store Day 2021 Release. San Francisco rock band The Flamin' Groovies moved to Britain in 1972, where they signed to United Artists. During this year they recorded “The Rockfield Recordings” with British producer Dave Edmonds at The Rockfield Studios in Wales. Now for the first time, all their 1972 recordings for United Artists will now be released on vinyl, having previously only been available on CD “A Bucket of Brains” back in 1995. ***Years in the making—The Lodger: A Story Of The London Fog was composed for a live scoring of Alfred Hitchcock's 1927 British silent film classic about the search for a "Jack the Ripper"-like serial killer on the loose in London. The score was first performed live at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on Halloween Night 2013 and recorded from 2016 to 2020. Pressed on orange vinyl.

Following their 1990s hiatus, Wire reformed in 1999, and, after setting up their own Pinkflag imprint, between 2001–2003 released five distinct Wire items: Twelve Times You (pf3; 7-inch vinyl), Read & Burn 01 (pf4; CD EP), Read & Burn 02 (pf5; CD EP), Send (pf6; CD album) and Pf456 Redux (pf456 Redux; 12-inch vinyl album. Following the two Read & Burn CD EPs, Wire released the full length album Send, combining some tracks from both Read & Burn EPs and four unreleased pieces. Since none of the tracks had previously been issued on vinyl, a creative solution was sought to include all of the tracks from Send and the two Read & Burn EPs. This was achieved by some quite brutal edits! Thus the title Pf456 Redux is both catalog number and descriptor of the process. However, none of the tracks on PF4, PF5 and PF6 were ever put out on vinyl at full length—hence Pf456 Deluxe, which includes everything from those three releases and Twelve Times You, for good measure. As in many things with Wire, form follows function. This limited edition version for Record Store Day 2021 comes with a hard -bound book containing text about these recordings and photos from the period.

On June 12, the company will release an exclusive single version of the Pierce original “Bad Indian” and a cover of Jody Reynolds’ “Fire of Love.” This Minky 45 will be accompanied by an even more impressive vault discovery: Soulsuckers On Parade, a full-length 1984 Pierce solo recording drawn from an abortive session for the cowpunk compilation album Don’t Shoot, first released by Zippo in the U.K. The vocalist is supported by an all-star unit comprising guitarist Dave Alvin, drummer Bill Bateman, and the late pianist Gene Taylor, then of the hot L.A. roots combo The Blasters, and bassist Jack Waterson of Green On Red; Chris D. (Chris Desjardins, who also produced the date) and The Gun Club’s Kid Congo Powers guest on background vocals.

On vinyl for the first time, Golden Gate Groove: The Sound Of Philadelphia-- Live in San Francisco 1973 captures the first and only time the stars of Philadelphia International Records (P.I.R.) -- including The O’Jays, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, The Three Degrees, and Billy Paul -- performed in concert with the label's house band, MFSB (Mother, Father, Sister, Brother). The concert, showcasing what would become the Sound of Philadelphia -- affectionately known as T.S.O.P. -- took place in San Francisco during the annual CBS Records convention at the Fairmont Hotel in September 1973.

This 7”features two tracks from a solo acoustic performance by frontman and songwriter Robin Pecknold, with a one song guest appearance from the Resistance Revival Chorus (rrc). The Resistance Revival RRC is a collective of more than 60 women, and non-binary singers, who join together to breathe joy and song into the resistance, and to uplift and center women’s voices. These two beautiful acoustic tracks, were recorded at St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church in Brooklyn, NY in December 2020 as part of the “A Very Lonely Solstice Livestream” event. The original versions of these songs were are from the Fleet Foxes new album, Shore.

The piece, composed of an accumulation of "blocks" of bodies, images and sounds, plays with the codes of dance alternating between gestures from "pop" culture and "learned" culture. In Static Shot, there is no beginning, middle or end. Like a permanent climax, the twenty-four dancers of the Ballet de Lorraine hold this culminating point together, the energy always having to be at its zenith. Everything tells the story of the excess of bodies and their relationship to the music of Chloé and Pete Harden; how they overflow, how they move, how they survive, how they abandon themselves, how they attract, how they mingle, how they don't die..
