Darius Syrossian’s Moxy Muzik Editions is fast becoming a firm favourite for all manner of reasons, from the consistently top-level tracks from some of the scene’s best producers, to the bespoke hand-drawn artwork from artist Charlotte Archer that decorates each new volume's sleeve. A must have series for any vinyl head out there and volume four is no different. From Glasgow via Leeds through to Southampton, Syrossian shines a light on some of the UK’s rising stars in the world of house music.

Up first Glasgow’s Tiptoes who provides one of Darius’ tracks of the summer, ‘Cuss Tomato’. Driving, soulful and skippy with nods to Grant Nelson and king Kerri that has been doing damage everywhere it’s been played.

Next, Syrossian remixes fellow Leeds producer Tomrob with his track ‘Professor Shellington’, taking the original’s minimal grooves, upping the tempo, filling the breaks with hands in the air pianos and injecting another dose of bounce into the beats.

The flipside has not one, but two tracks from Southampton’s Ronnie Spiteri, a double header of peak time bombs, one of which entitled ‘Scorpion’ had its first play at Creamfields by Alan Fitzpatrick and Darius in Manchester, leading to a flurry of track ID requests and Darius' TikTok post of the track going viral. A monster of a cut with an Enzo Siragusa style bass, a heavy thundering kick and a solid groove.

Four absolute winners once again from Moxy Muzik.

Tiptoes makes a welcome return to SlothBoogie Records with a fresh four-track EP, entitled ‘The Akai Samurai Strikes Again’. Glasgow’s Tiptoes has long been a respected name in the Scottish electronic music circuit, bringing his eclectic style to the table as a DJ, blending everything from jazz to jungle, house to techno, garage, broken beat and many more genres. His productions are a nod to his many influences and once again with this EP were treated to an amalgamation of sounds. ‘Techno Woo’ leads the way and see Tiptoes embracing a filter house feel, merging a number of choppy funk licks, vocal chants, and bass lines in an ever-unfolding dynamic matter, while dusty drums carry the bouncy groove throughout. ‘Brotherman’ then tips the focus on to soul drenched guitar lines, brass melodies, snaking bass grooves and hypnotic vocal lines alongside loose, swinging percussion. Opening the flip side is ‘Mars Landings’, embracing a deeper house aesthetic courtesy of hazy Rhodes chords, swelling vocal loops and organic drums before ‘Strings’ rounds things out, as the name would suggest the composition is built around expansive string melodies, gritty bass stabs and sturdy, thunderous drums.

Tiptoes joins the SlothBoogie roster this October with the ‘Good Times Incoming’ EP, comprised of four originals from the Scottish artist. Hailing from Glasgow, Scotland, Tiptoes is a time-served DJ/Producer who has been in the game for over 15 years and has performed at a variety of venues worldwide. As a DJ, Tiptoes sound traverses from Jazz to Jungle through Detroit, Disco, Techno, Garage, Broken Beat, Deep House and everything in between, always finding that balance between energy and soul which crosses over into his productions also. Up first on the package is ‘Born Slippery’, a filter house workout fuelled by an amalgamation of funk infused bass, guitar and brass licks alongside swinging drums and dynamic filter work. ‘Green Room’ follows next and lays down soulful strings, stuttering vocal cuts and plucked bass atop an organic drum groove. Opening the flip-side is ‘Right Here’, stripping things back to robust drums, jazzy keys and processed vocal chants before ‘Alright’ rounds out the release via airy keys, moog like synth licks and crunchy lo-fi percussion.

Glaswegian House don Tiptoes offers up some absolute belters for his Record Business EP which chalks up his 3rd appearance on the Slothboogie label. The SB crew have been gagging to release these tracks ever since he dropped early demos at one of their infamous 24-hour parties at Sisyphos, Berlin that caused a mad rush to the booth and demands for track IDs! The title track ‘Record Business’ is a peak time filtered House bomb that has been causing mayhem in sets over the past year… an absolute ear worm! 'Call Me' is another juicy slab of House that features looped up Motown licks, Jackin’ brass stabs and someone who is not very happy that Tiptoes hasn’t been returning her calls! Finishing off the A side is ‘Food’; the very essence of a ‘Deep House Roller’. Hypnotic tonal loops cycle over tribal drums which are guaranteed to lock any dance floor into a trance. On the flip you’ll find Tiptoes dimming the lights and getting smokey as he explores his deeper side. ‘Brothers & Sisters’ supplies deep and hazy head nodding beats with clever MPC chops, blissed out keys and spoken word arrangements. ‘It’s Only Love’ sees Tiptoes bringing his motor city influences to the fore with looped up soul snippets, breathy KDJ inspired vocals, thumping lo-slung beats and chopped up string sections worthy of any car wash.
