This new Spiritual Jazz edition contains only tracks from privately pressed jazz records released in the U.S. between 1964 and 1987. The reasons for making self-released records are as varied as the stories behind them, and none are the same. It takes imagination, enthusiasm, dedication, hard work and more than a little luck to get it right, even for professionals. Perhaps that's why so many private pressings remain so obscure and elusive to this day. In keeping with the DIY ethos behind them, the covers of each Spiritual Jazz LP and CD are hand-stamped, so no two copies are exactly alike. And as always, the series includes liner notes and photos, in this case directly from the artists themselves.
