Despite never achieving major mainstream success in his career, the scope of influence from cult comedian Rudy Ray Moore is palpable and far-reaching. A consummate performer and raconteur, Moore's comedy emphasized raw and explicit story-telling and wisecracking, often told in rhyme, and featuring a backing band; a style of performance that inadvertedly set a blueprint for early hip-hop music. Following in the footsteps of comic legends Redd Foxx and Moms Mabley, his stage presence would inspire the likes of Katt Williams and Snoop Dogg, find widespread underground success among inner cities in the 1970s, and would lead him to collaborate with a wide swath of artists into his later years, from Big Daddy Kane to Insane Clown Posse. His various bits and sketches would even become sampling fodder in tracks by Madlib, A Tribe Called Quest, DJ Shadow, 2 Live Crew, and innumerable others. Above all else, Rudy Ray Moore's best known and most beloved claim to fame is his tales of the legend of Dolemite the pimp. Derived from various obscene stories he overheard while working in a record store, Moore's most famous routine saw him take on the role of Dolemite, and recount humorous stories and anecdotes which framed the hustler as something of a ghetto folk hero. These anecdotes proved to be incredibly popular in urban clubs and parties, and would later be adapted into the hit 1975 blaxploitation film Dolemite, of which Moore would produce and star. In celebration of Rudy Ray Moore's extensive works, as well as the upcoming Eddie Murphy-starring Netflix biopic featuring him, Dolemite Records proudly presents this vinyl reissue of one of his 1975 release, The Return Of Dolemite. Coming just on the cusp of the feature film's release, Return sees Moore at the top of his game, spinning anecdotal yarns about sexual conquests, hustling stories, and in his own parlance: “F*ckin' up motherf*ckas!” Exclusive to Record Store Day 2019, this deluxe reissue comes decades after its initial release, and the first time pressed on vinyl in over 40 years.

The Book of AM* is a collection of inspirational songs, poems and stories composed in different parts of the world through the millennia up to the present day and edited and set to music and graphics by Juan Arkotxa and Leslie MacKenzie. The Book expresses core themes from Eastern and Western philosophical and religious traditions and it follows the cycle of day with five parts - Dawn, Morning, Afternoon, Evening and Night.When the Book was first published in 1977 the incomplete Part V, NIGHT, was not incorporated into the four part publication (Part I published in Paris 1978, and Parts I, 2, 3, and 4 were published by Wah-Wah Records in 2004 and 2010). At last the final part NIGHT has been completed and is presented here as the conclusion of this long project.

We have used recordings from that time, 1977, and combined with musical and technical collaboration, mainly from oG, (introduced to us by the member of the Book of AM team Will Z and also part of the Belgium group Cosmic Trip Machine) who joined us for this project and has brought his own form of genius to the mix, adding, along with Will Z, extra overdubs to our original recordings, as well as making an invaluable contribution to the composition, mixing and mastering by which we have achieved a sound different from the previous AM albums, more ethereal and informal but at the same time surprising and powerful which steps out of the standard songs format and creates a befitting space for the nocturnal and final mood of this project.

Whether prepared solo, or jointly with his spar Mix Mup, a Kassem Mosse recording is less of a stand-alone creation than the next thrilling installment of an unstoppable groove. True to form, Disclosure dazzlingly extends some of the most mystical, essential dancefloor-rooted music of the last decade, from dusty, dream-state techno on Workshop and Mikrodisko, to frazzled beat downs on Trilogy Tapes and Nonplus. Pedigree techno and house are the lifeblood of “Disclosure”, yet with something newly microscopic about them. Its mesmerizing juggle of pointillistic percussion, melting-wax chords and fleshy bump’n’grind suggests biological processes at work, as if Mosse has zoomed right into the cellular metabolism ticking away at the core of the music. These textures are woven into some of KM’s richest and most emotionally complex material so far, constantly enlivened by forays into jazz, dub and beyond. Expertly pieced-together and paced, “Disclosure” brilliantly registers all the self-contained coherence and artistic authority of an album proper, yet shadowed throughout by the open-ended and questing spirit so vital to Mosse’s music. Its intimate enactments of non-closure, and its sense that anything could happen at any moment; its thematic play between excess and incompleteness, babble and tongue-tied stutter, and-you-don't-stop grooving and entropy, wobble and the pause-button.

Combining Soul, Jazz, Folk and RnB, Natalie's timeless vocals dazzle across 10 stunning tracks, perfectly complimented by rich, live instrumentation and Mavin's vibrant production. The album is classic to its core, whilst taking a fresh and energetic approach to a long tradition of Soul/RnB long players. Familiar broken rhythms and jazz heavy motifs, notorious with Hiatus Kaiyote's writing and arrangement style are present, reminding us throughout that we are in the hands of true masters. The result is a kaleidoscopic reimagining of sounds and styles from an exciting new vocal talent. Recording began after a chance encounter between Natalie and the Hiatus keys player Simon Mavin, resulting in a writing session that quickly escalated into a full blown album project. The chemistry was clear and the creativity flowed. Spontaneous recording sessions ensued, with visitors to the studio jumping in to play on tracks, the levels of musicianship on the album never fall short of stunning and Natalie's poetic and enchanting song writing shines throughout. The album kicks off with an energetic flash on 'Cloud Cover', an arpeggiating bass line bubbles over skipping drums and aquatic synths. The title track 'Control' puts it's foot on the gas with a driving synth bass, broken beats and soaring vocals. 'Colour' see's Natalie pouring out her heart to the universe over a fluttering mellotron whilst the beautiful 'There Is Light In Everything' gives her a chance to show off her vocal prowess. Norwegian bassist, composer and producer Jo Berger Myhre has long thrived on collaboration, bringing his distinctive voice to a wide variety of adventurous projects. He is best known as one-third of the exploratory electro-acoustic trio Splashgirl and a member for the last seven years of the Nils Petter Molvær Quartet, with whom he's recorded and co-produced two albums: 2016's Buoyancy and this summer's Stitches. He's also a frequent duo partner of multi-instrumentalist Olafur Björn Olafsson and has performed and/or recorded with the likes of Mariam the Believer, Jenny Hval & Susanna, Geir Sundstol and Finland, the improvising alt-rock quartet of Pål Hausken, Morten Qvenild, Ivar Grydeland and Myhre.Now, Myhre makes his solo debut with the release of the captivating and mysterious Unheimlich Manoeuvre, The title is an obvious play on the life-saving technique, though whether the added negation makes the threatening or simply subverted remains ambiguous. More to the point, the English translation of unheimlich is "uncanny" or "eerie" - an apt descriptor for the sounds that Myhre creates. To borrow a phrase from David Lynch's Twin Peaks, Myhre conjures aural landscapes that suggest "a place both wonderful and strange," stunning in their beauty with something alluringly unsettling lurking just Underneath.

Emotional Rescue begins the first in a series of reissues looking at the music of guitarist Carl Weingarten and his Multiphase Records label, starting at his highly sought after collaborate album with Walter Whitney, Dreaming In Colors. With an early interest in photography and Super 8 film leading to a degree in cinema production, Weingarten's other, self-taught, love was the slide guitar. Taking its blues roots and merging them with his visual arts background created a unique "painting in sound" style of playing. While looking to break into the film industry he began writing and recording his own film scores and other music for modern dance companies. From this, he founded Multiphase Records in St Louis in 1980. By the time of Dreaming In Colors, the label had released a series of cassettes and vinyl albums offering abstract, experimental, jazz-fusion, new wave and increasingly, new age compositions. Throughout this period the work of engineer, keyboardist and programmer, Walter Whitney was often present and by the 1985 release of Dreaming In Colors the duo had collaborated for a number of years and released several projects together, most notably as members of the Delay Tactics band. Recorded during off days from the Delay Tactics sessions, the album came together at Whitney's Subterranean Sound studio with a focus away from the bands guitar driven instrumentals to explore a multilayered approach to synthesis, blending textures with Whitney's original samples and sound design, while Weingarten's guitar moved from shining solo moments to complimenting the overall oeuvre, all with heavy washes of delay. This ecumenical approach led to the creation of this compelling album. A masterful conceptual whole that is linked by rich melodies and a concise playing style, heavy on substance while never forgoing the uplifting vibrations.

“Nightmare Eclipse”, the second album and label debut from Sheboygan, Wisconsin's mosh masters Toxic Ruin. The album shows off the combination of energetic thrash metal, death metal brutality and clinical technicality that propelled the band to the final round of the 2019 Wacken Metal Battle. Toxic Ruin was formed in 2014 with a mission of blending classic thrash metal, old-school death metal and modern technicality and tones into a wicked headbanging brew. Caleb Landry Jones is a continual creator. The Texan-born star found fame as an actor - you'll recognise him from key roles in X-Men: First Class, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, amongst others - but music is perhaps his first love, and his source of greatest comfort. A chance encounter with famed auteur Jim Jarmusch brought him into the orbit of Sacred Bones, and the stalwart independent released Caleb's 2020 debut album The Mother Stone. Psychedelic in a defiantly non-retro way, this indulgent, freewheeling trip won critical acclaim, but masked a secret - he'd already finished another album. Filming alongside Tom Hanks in dystopian themed Finch, Caleb found himself writing during those long evenings after the shoot in locations across New Mexico, idling away his hours by focusing on creativity. "I need it," he says, "I've tried working without it. On one acting job, I intentionally didn't bring a guitar to try and do it without music... but that didn't last long. I need to create something - it could be a drawing, it could be a song - because otherwise I feel like I'm wasting time. Which is something I do plenty of on my own!" With his creative faculties burning, Caleb knew he had to get straight back into the studio when filming stopped. Linking with the same cast who formed The Mother Stone, he resumed his partnership with producer Nic Jodoin, based out of the elegant Valentine Recording Studio in Los Angeles. A studio steeped in history - everyone from Bing Crosby to Frank Zappa worked there - he interrupted mixing sessions for his own debut album in order to focus on something different. Gadzooks Vol. 1 is unlike anything you've heard before - comparisons range from Skip Spence's fractured masterpiece Oar through to skewed troubadour Robyn Hitchcock, via John Lennon's black moods on The White Album and Frank Zappa's caustic surrealism. Recording to tape, Caleb would hack away at each take, re-assembling the songs like Escher diagrams. "It's like when you're swimming in the pool," he smiles, "and you're doing a bit of butterfly, and then that gets old after a while. So then you start doing breaststroke, and then that gets old after a while. I think it's just a reaction from the place where we were before." Part of a flood-tide of creativity - as its title suggests, a second half to this album is already on the horizon - Gadzooks Vol. 1 is thrilling, shocking, and wonderfully entertaining. Each song starts and finishes in entirely unique places, often totally divorced from each other. "I'm trying to write something very simple," he says, "And it gets really abstract because I don't know any other way."

Led by guitarist/vocalist Gabriele Fiori, also of Black Rainbows, Killer Boogie come across as more geared toward the retro-style '70s rock currently holding sway on the European scene in the wake of Graveyard‘s blues rock supremacy, but their take is rawer than most, and that gives them an edge. Killer Boogie is band well versed in the making of ’70s riff making; a new machine in the retro ’n’ roll scene adept at mixing bluesy frequencies into an extremely fuzzy sound with psychedelic shades.The band is formed by Gabriele Fiori on guitars and vocals, Luigi Costanzo on drums and new bassist Nicola Cosentino who joined the band for the new album in early 2017. Their debut album "Detroit" in early 2015 surprisely recieved much attention and great feedbacks, who bring the band to play at Desert Fest Berlin and Duna Jam. After a split with other cool bands of the scene as Golden Grass, Banquet and Wild Eyes the band wrote a wonderful sophomore album in the spring 2017 and recorded in the summer. Killer Boogie is a power retrofuzzriffprotopunkacidblues trio, obsessed by early fuzz pedals, catchy riffs, 60s and 70s iconography Killer Boogie grounds its roots in the sound of Blue Cheer, The Stooges, MC5 and Cactus.

It’s not often that a cover version of a stone Soul Classic gets the approval of the cognoscenti. It’s even more unusual when that cover is itself a “lost and found” in-demander. The story starts with Beloyd “Get Into Your Life” released on a single on the 20th Century label. This 1970s Modern Soul masterpiece commands £200 a time, but more importantly is one of those records that sets your pulse racing and your spirits soaring.. Moving on - 7 years ago UK songwriter and record producer Vince Garcia - the creator of those Drizabone anthems “Real Love”, “Pressure” and “Brightest Star” - woke up one day and decided to end his self imposed exile from making music. Das neue Album von Car Seat Headrest, „Making A Door Less Open“, liefert die ersten neuen Songs seit dem 2016er Album "Teens Of Denial". Die Tracks entstanden in den letzten vier Jahren als fruchtbare Kollaboration zwischen Car Seat Headrest und 1 Trait Danger, einem elektronischen CSH-Nebenprojekt, bestehend aus dem CSH-Drummer Andrew Katz und Toledos Alter Ego Trait. So wurde das Album letztlich doppelt aufgenommen: Einmal live in voller Bandbesetzung mit Gitarren, Drums und Bass und einmal in einer MIDI-Version, nur mit synthetisch erzeugten Sounds. Durch den Mix wurden die beiden Ansätze dann miteinander verflochten und um zusätzliche Aufnahmen ergänzt.

Nachdem Will Toledo zu Beginn seines Schaffens als Car Seat Headrest bis zum Signing bei Matador Records in 2015 je nach Zählweise (hier streiten sich die Geister) zwischen acht und 12 Alben veröffentlichte, fühlen sich nun die vier Jahre Pause seit „Teens of Denial“ wie ein ganzes Leben für den in Seattle lebenden Musikaholic. Doch das zur Band angewachsene Projekt um Mastermind Toledo war keinesfalls untätig, sondern erfand sich und ihre Weise Musik zu machen kurzerhand neu. „I wanted to make something that was different from my previous records, and I struggled to figure out how to do that. I realized that because the way I listened to music had changed, I had to change the way I wrote music, as well. I was listening less and less to albums and more and more to individual songs, songs from all over the place, every few days finding a new one that seemed to have a special energy. I thought that if I could make an album full of songs that had a special energy, each one unique and different in its vision, then that would be a good thing.“, schreibt Toledo dementsprechend in seinem Essay „Newness and Strangeness“ zur Entstehungsgeschichte.
