Now-Again Records has enjoyed a long and creative partnership with Munich-based multi-instrumentalist JJ Whitefield, creative force behind the Poets of Rhythm, Whitefield Brothers and Karl Hector & The Malcouns.

Rodinia, his latest project, is quite different than anything that’s come from his oeuvre to date, but follows in the line of the Poets of Rhythm’s great “Discern/Define”, as it reaches back to Krautrock’s experimental heyday but pushes its boundaries with a post-hip-hop approach.

Rodinia’s first album, “Drumside/Dreamside”, featured two, side-long suites, with synthesizers taking the fore on an overarching ambient approach (featuring over-dubbed reeds, drums and guitar, and self-made Moroccan field recordings introducing the project on its Drumside.)

“For Ex Anima”, Rodinia has incorporated more of the mid-70s approach of Krautrock forebears Neu!, Cluster and Harmonia, with shorter, self-contained songs. The result is winsome and exploratory, respectfully distanced from the past’s trappings while celebrating a musical spirit still very much alive and influential. With original artwork by Jason Jagel (DOOM’s Mm Food, Operation DOOMsday).

Electronic Krautrock in line with Cluster, Harmonia, Neu!, Popul Vuh from Jay Whitefield (Poets of Rhythm/Whitefield Brothers/Karl Hector & The Malcouns). The album includes a download card.

'Memory Box' - the new album by Rodney Cromwell - fuses a European synthpop sensibility with a world of magical realism. It was inspired as much by the literature of Alice in Wonderland, Franz Kafka and Anna Kavan, as by its musical influences of artists such as Kraftwerk, Neu!, The Cure, Silver Apples, Oppenheimer Analysis and Polyrock. The sonic pallet of 'Memory Box' is rich, colourful, often surprising and utterly unique. Since the release of his debut 'Age of Anxiety' album in 2015, Rodney Cromwell has been featured by the likes of NME, Electronic Sound Magazine, Huffington Post, Paste, BBC6 Music and national RNE3 in Spain for whom he recorded a live session. 'Age of Anxiety' was included in a wealth of Best of Lists, not least that of Electronic Sound. He has appeared on compilations alongside Cavern of Anti-Matter, John Foxx, Devo, OMD, Katy Perry and many more. Rodney Cromwell is the project of Adam Cresswell. The first band he founded was SALOON, who were John Peel darlings, who recorded three Peel Sessions and the Festive 50 number 1 of 2002. They released three acclaimed albums on Track & Field (UK) and Darla Records (US) and played with a host of alternative acts including Stereolab, Electrelane, Quickspace, Laika, Of Montreal & Movietone. He followed Saloon with ARTHUR & MARTHA the acclaimed tweetronica duo that released the sole album 'Navigation' before vanishing. In addition to performing as Rodney Cromwell, he runs the Happy Robots record label. The Rodney Cromwell live set is a joyful mixed-media extravaganza, incorporating analogue synths, video visuals and live instrumentation, interjected by Rodney's 'offbeat wit'. His debut festival appearance at Indietracks in 2015 was described as 'like a spiritual experience". Roe Deers presents his fascinating debut full-length Salt Town Boy, a leftfield collection of wild sonic tales filled with dusky moods and punk attitude. The first LP to be released on Good Skills, the label Roe Deers runs with Bdhbts co-conspirator Titas Motuzas, the album brings together tracks produced in his Vilnius studio over the past six years. It also features a series of unique storytelling vocal contributions from an international list of friends and colleagues.

Roe Deers is a Lithuanian-based project led by Liudas Lazauskas. A regular at Vilnius institution Opium and a key member of the city's fertile scene, he's long been breaking the rules of genre in his explorations of the uncharted territories of murky electronic music, releasing on labels like Omnidisc, Turbo, Nein Records and Throne Of Blood.

The Salt Town of the album's title is Druskininkai, the Lithuanian spa resort where Roe Deers grew up and first began DJing at a venue run by his parents. The breadth of styles and moods he was exposed to from an early age can be heard across these 12 intriguing tracks, which blend elements of beat science, electroclash, post punk, italo, krautrock and EBM into a deliciously intoxicating brew.

The skewed motorik pulse of opener and lead single 'Trident', featuring apocalyptic intonations by French-Canadian lyricist C.A.R., sets an offbeat, ominous tone that prevails for the rest of the album. Vocal contributions from Israeli producer Niv Ast ('Late Night Tale'), Norwegian troublemaker Sex Judas ('Rodeo King') and Berlin-based singer Aquarius Heaven ('Walking Down The Streets') each bring out the moods - vampish, febrile, industrial - that permeate Roe Deers's textured, percussive productions. At the album's centre are two tracks that point to the past and possible future of the Roe Deers project: first, 'Theme' features French post punk band Order89 in a compelling disco-noir moment that recalls his earlier club EPs; then, regular collaborator Palmes Ziedas provides Lithuanian vocals for 'Tarp Raudonu Sviesu' ('Between Red Lights'), a frenzied howl of a track that fits an entire film score into its short three minutes.

The instrumental pieces on the album have their own stories to tell, from the dusty dive bar meditation of 'Flying Carpets' to the paranoid proto-techno pulse of 'Celebrity Theme' and the 11-minute cyclical epic 'Never - Ending -'. As the last moments of cinematic closer 'Fin' play out, we realise that our trip down the twisted paths of Roe Deers's beguiling sound world is coming to an end; but we also know that to go back in again all we have to do is press play.

Rolando Simmons - a revered name in certain acidic circles - joins Utter for the 'Human Remains' EP, a wildly inventive 8-track adventure that deftly dabbles in rave, IDM, Techno and beyond in classic RS style. The project is the creative brainchild of Mattias Östling, who has been on a prolific production streak since the late 2000s, firstly under the name Trackermatte before settling into work under his current moniker.

This particular release is a missing puzzle-piece of sorts, compiled and sequenced by Utter's Alex Egan from a self-released digital collection titled 'Human Touch' which initially surfaced on Bandcamp during the producer's golden 2016 'Walk On Strawberries' and 'World Building' era.

'Human Touch' was a curious selection of unmastered oddities - the first Östling made using audio signal processing environment Cecilia5 - which remained largely overlooked due to its digital limbo. The tracklist itself shifted, with bonus tracks appearing then disappearing. While the excellent Dutch label 030303 cherry-picked the original version of the title track for a 2019 2xLP of the same name, the rest of the material remained frustratingly unavailable on vinyl and elsewhere, including the elusive bonus track which prompted Egan to reach out to Östling in the first place, the stunning 'sq1_mc4_iloveu03a_149unedit'.

That track is firmly at the core of this new EP, under its new title 'Nueva Traditional', as well as the alternative CV Beszállás edit of 'Human Touch'. They are surrounded by every other un-pilfered gem that originally appeared alongside them - however briefly - with all material freshly mastered and cut by Anne Taegert at D&M. The artwork and large fold-out poster (included with the 12") were designed by the Timpani Mystique Agency.

A votive. An object as an offering. An intention. A spell in physical form. Music as a form of invocation. Sound as clay. Moulded, sculpted, manipulated to embody said intention. Magick. Chaos. Turning sound into clay. Clay into earthenware. Literally.

Making use of the term Votive opened a large room for interpretation for me. There is so much that I could argue with, which would be about me (atheism, queerness or feminism ) in order to prevent misinterpretation. But I don’t want to limit the interpretation of it by explaining my own personal view. – Rosa Anschütz

The debut LP from transmedia artist / vocalist / producer Rosa Anschütz is a collection of nine votives presented in sonic and ceramic form (every song has its sculptural equivalent). It’s the result of several years of daily rituals: word collages as incantations, audio sigils created by shaping electric voltages and casting sound into clay. Votive is also a highly charged space full of spirit/emotion, a religious experience distilled from the ecstasies of an agnostic.

I sang in choirs for a very long time and enjoy hearing multiple voices. I also love the reverb effect you get in a Church, I emulate this using effect pedals and plug-ins. I also use vocal loops like mantras. I can enter into self-hypnosis through singing. – Rosa Anschütz

Votive was produced by Jan Wagner. It took three years for the initial sketches to punctuate in finished songs. The basis for the music was created using Rosa’s self-built modular synthesizer, which she describes as an entity full of personality that “reacts on my mood of the day.” The lyrics were distilled from her growing collection of decontextualised phrases, loose poems – often written on the move – and diary-like entries, obsessively collected over the years. During the production, these word-formations were intuitively combined with the modular soundscapes, and sculpted till they became holistic, well-balanced micro-universes.

A synthesizer can literally absorb you. It not only has a range of sounds, but also its own personality. I’m constantly changing how I make use of it. – Rosa Anschütz

Like the material found on last year’s Rigid EP, these songs are a curious alloy crafted from a range of sonic vernaculars: experimental / noise, cold wave, techno and avant-pop. The space they evoke remains cool and dusky, both airless and cathedral vast. Spoken word pieces are woven in between spectral choral arrangements, the effect is that of hypnotic mantras. Votive is far from a neutral experience and there is a clear before and after, once you hear it.

"Rosanna & Zélia were a Brazilian duo of singers and musicians Rosanna Guimarães Tavares and Zélia Nogueira da Fonseca. They moved from Minas Gerais, Brazil to Europe in 1988, released five albums in Germany between 1993–2004 and featured vocals on an Ian Pooley house track Coração Tambor before Rosanna died of cancer in 2006. Zélia still continues her career in Germany, touring actively and releasing new music.
The duo's journey from Brazil to Germany also included two brief visits to Finland. In the years 1989–1990, they spent time in the small town of Seinäjoki in Ostrobothnia. Rosanna & Zélia performed Brazilian music in Finnish clubs and festivals and recorded a 7" EP for local label Maumau Music. The record was distributed mostly in the Seinäjoki area, but the three songs are well-performed and authentic Brazilian MPB, so the largely unknown record now gets its first reissue for a wider audience on We Jazz Records.
But how did two Brazilian women find their way to a small Finnish town to record an EP? The main reason for this was music journalist and promoter Risto Vuorinen, who was on a holiday in Albufeira, Portugal, where a friend of his lived. The streets were almost empty that evening, but Vuorinen and his friend heard fine guitar playing and singing from a bar. There were Rosanna and Zélia performing on a small stage, and the two Finnish men happened to be the only customers. When the artists ended their performance, Vuorinen's friend, who spoke Portuguese, went to talk to them. Rosanna and Zélia told him they had recently come from Brazil and are trying to gain ground in Europe with their music.
Because Rosanna and Zélia didn't know where they would head next, and because Vuorinen liked their music, he thought of bringing the duo to his hometown, Seinäjoki. They immediately liked the idea, and in the autumn of 1989 they arrived in Finland. The national Finnish jazz festival was held in Seinäjoki, and Vuorinen thought Rosanna & Zélia's Brazilian music would fit right in. They performed at the festival and in November 1989, also made recordings in a local studio with backing musicians from Seinäjoki.
Music enthusiast Pertti Hakala had a record shop and label Maumau Music in Seinäjoki releasing music from local artists. He released a three-track EP from the sessions. with two tracks written by Rosanna & Zelia themselves and their cover version of Extra (Brazilian Reggae), written and originally performed by Gilberto Gil in 1983. A small pressing was made for the Finnish market, and Hakala also sent a box of records to Brazil, but for some reason it was sent back.
After their first visit to Finland, Rosanna & Zélia headed back to central Europe, but Vuorinen decided to organize more performances for them for the next summer. Maybe he also wanted to show them the beautiful Finnish summer, as Rosanna and Zélia had so far seen the country only during the darkest autumn. The duo came back to Finland for the summer of 1990 and performed at the Womad world music festival organized as a part of local Provinssirock. They also played in Nummirock and Puistoblues, both respected music festivals, and performed on TV in Helsinki.
Rosanna and Zélia lived in a small apartment in Seinäjoki and played two to three gigs per week all summer. Because there were only two of them, even small pubs could afford to book them, and in 1990 the economic situation in Finland was good. It was before a major economic depression hit the country. The duo travelled by bus or train, and because they were an acoustic duo, they could easily carry their instruments in public transport. Vuorinen got excellent feedback from organizers. Rosanna and Zélia were good performers, but also really nice people.
With the income from their summer gigs, Rosanna and Zélia could buy a PA mixer and other musical equipment. When the summer 1990 turned to autumn, they continued their journey from Seinäjoki to Germany where they settled down."

Here we‘ve got two tunes that come with a fascinating story. Recorded in the late 70’s, but never released, this music was thought to be lost.But let’s go back to the beginning. Rose was originally a member of family affair called „The Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose“ heralding from Dania Beach, Florida. The group had early success with a recording contract with United Artists, which produced two albums in 1972 & 73 respectively, plus an extensive number of single release taken from these albums, which included the million seller ‘Too late to turn back now’. But Rose’s story starts even further back, singing solo and as part of the Gospel Jazz Singers in the late 60’s, with even a solo appearance on The Ed Sullivan TV show. In 1970, at her mother’s request, she returned home to form the family group and to use her contacts in the music industry to move things forward. The group stayed together until 1976. Soon after Rose returned to a solo career, but few further releases appeared. During this time she recorded a number of tracks in Miami at The Music factory with producer Shirley Cowell, who later received a grammy nomination for her work with Lena Horne. Arrangement was done by gold-certified studio veteran Frank Owens. By this time the Disco sound had taken over much of the music industry and these tracks had a Hi-Energy feel that was much in favour at the time. This session produced the titles ‘Here’ and ‘I want you to stay with me’ but no release was forthcoming. For many years they became almost forgotten, until the next chapter of the story.In 2018 DJ and record collector Dave Thorley saw an old & dusty acetate disc for sale online, credited to Rose Cornelius. When listening to it he realised that this was indeed Sister Rose of the aforementioned group and purchased it, initially with the intention of simply playing it in his DJ sets. Dave offered the disc to his friends of the Disco Bizarre crew from KitKatClub / Berlin for their record label. Rose, in turn, was contacted and she was kind enough to give permission for its release and additional contemporary remixes/ re-edits. Thus New York producer veteran DJ Duke and San Francisco Disco authority Jim Hopkins landed on the bill. You now have the results of this story on Disco Bizarre’s latest release - a story that has spanned fifty plus years. We at Disco Bizarre are excited about the final results and are happy we‘re able to share it with you.

Island Of Lost Souls follows his acclaimed 2018 LP Suffuse—a novel departure in which he consigned all vocal duties to ambient / experimental peers Liz Harris (of Grouper), Julianna Barwick, Purple Pilgrims, Haley Fohr (of Circuit des Yeux), Katie von Schleicher, and She Keeps Bees. But the veteran evolves again. On this release Montgomery creates resounding, aerial compositions for guitar. The DJ and producer has established a solid reputation over the last decade working sound across New York

‘hara’ picks up where those tracks left off, working experimental sounds into three tracks that never stray too

‘ramanujan prime’, presumably named after Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, is the EP’s most
propulsive track, snipping choppy chatter and inserting into a beat sequence that’s part wiggly NYC club
and part dissociated Bollywood dream. But rrao saves the best for last, weaving tonally rich tabla sounds
into stuttered kick sequences and xenharmonic gong sounds that’d give Donato Dozzy or Batu a run for their
money. Never tipping into over-complication, it’s smart, futuristic club music that’s restrained, dubby and

Composer, percussionist, and multidisciplinary artist Rrucculla is undoubtedly one of the most eclectic projects to emerge from Spain in recent times, combining abstraction, plasticity and experimentation with an uncommon mastery. Since her first impact on the electronic "headz" scene with SHuSH [Sound Sketches, 2018], the Basque producer has been carefully distilling her new album Zeru Freq., which will be released on Barcelona's Lapsus record label. The album is wide-ranging, interweaving sound and art that transports the listener into an immersive universe. Zeru Freq. envelops us in a Euskadi environment, guiding us through an open-air museum, containing a collection of eleven sound productions that fuse nature, landscapes and the local climate. This epic musical journey incorporates organic frequencies painted in Technicolor, in which hyper-realistic synthesizer textures merge with acoustic instruments, resulting in an atmospheric ambient sound that warps our perceptions of reality. At a sonic level the unmistakable stamp of Rrucculla is omnipresent, but this time she climbs to even higher plains. Zeru Freq. explores an expanded aural palette, traversing the borders of strictly electronic music, while laying the foundations for a new audio discourse. Voted Track of the Year at Gilles Peterson’s 2003 Worldwide awards, RSL’s “Wesley Music” was an instant anthem on its release, combining a jazzy sensibility with heavy percussion, catchy brass riffs, and a building, hands-in-the-air chorus hook. The Manchester, UK-based band first released the single on their own label, but as the tune took off it was quickly released in the U.S. by Giant Step Records, long a pipeline for the freshest British new music. You might think that a certain bad-hair-having, shit-talking presidential candidate is obnoxious, but there’s one man who would definitely be more dangerous in the White House: Dolemite. Traffic Entertainment Group is proud to reissue this hilarious and downright filthy album to celebrate the mud-slinging we’ll all beexperiencing this fall. And, of course, to remind the world of Rudy Ray Moore’s unique comedic genius. Originally released in 1972 in the middle of the disaster now known as the Nixon Years, the album is filled to the brim with Moore’s bawdy but debatably insightful takes on politics, sex and American society, funneled through the lens of his most famous persona, Dolemite. As it warns on the cover: “Rated XXX: For Adults Only.” And they aren’t kidding. The album’s lengthy first cut, “Campaign Speech,” is worth the price of admission alone. Ranting for ten minutes straight, Moore lets it all hang out, with every bit of profanity he can muster. It’s certainly interesting to hear some of his words more than four decades later. “I’m not promising you a chicken in every pot,” he bellows, in his trademark raspy scowl. “I’m not promising you a God-damn thing. If I am elected, I promise to legalize prostitution, marijuana, stealing, and every other motherfuckin’ thing you want to do.” Making fun of Nixon, George McGovern and Spiro Agnew, he continues, “We’re still waiting for that 40 acres and that motherfucking mule.” Towards the end, he brings forth a metaphor that, interestingly, would come true in the year of Moore’s passing, 2008: “The next thing I’ma do, I’m gonna move on my first act. I’m gonna get me 2,000 raggedy-ass painters, and paint the motherfucking White House black!” The rest of the album’s 13 songs are equally loud, offensive, funny and even – when the audience isn’t expecting it – serious. With a live soul group grooving behind him and a live audience yelling support along the way, he gives his fans what they want on cuts like “Dance Of The Freaks,” “Long Island Duck,” “Farting Contest” and “Chester & Mr. Dillon.”Released on black vinyl with its eye-catching original front and back artwork, it’s a great way to relive the comedic bravery and brashness of a truly unique man, Rudy Ray Moore.

Despite never achieving major mainstream success in his career, the scope of influence from cult comedian Rudy Ray Moore is palpable and far-reaching. A consummate performer and raconteur, Moore's comedy emphasized raw and explicit story-telling and wisecracking, often told in rhyme, and featuring a backing band; a style of performance that inadvertedly set a blueprint for early hip-hop music. Following in the footsteps of comic legends Redd Foxx and Moms Mabley, his stage presence would inspire the likes of Katt Williams and Snoop Dogg, find widespread underground success among inner cities in the 1970s, and would lead him to collaborate with a wide swath of artists into his later years, from Big Daddy Kane to Insane Clown Posse. His various bits and sketches would even become sampling fodder in tracks by Madlib, A Tribe Called Quest, DJ Shadow, 2 Live Crew, and innumerable others. Above all else, Rudy Ray Moore's best known and most beloved claim to fame is his tales of the legend of Dolemite the pimp. Derived from various obscene stories he overheard while working in a record store, Moore's most famous routine saw him take on the role of Dolemite, and recount humorous stories and anecdotes which framed the hustler as something of a ghetto folk hero. These anecdotes proved to be incredibly popular in urban clubs and parties, and would later be adapted into the hit 1975 blaxploitation film Dolemite, of which Moore would produce and star. In celebration of Rudy Ray Moore's extensive works, as well as the upcoming Eddie Murphy-starring Netflix biopic featuring him, Dolemite Records proudly presents this vinyl reissue of one of his 1975 release, The Return Of Dolemite. Coming just on the cusp of the feature film's release, Return sees Moore at the top of his game, spinning anecdotal yarns about sexual conquests, hustling stories, and in his own parlance: “F*ckin' up motherf*ckas!” Exclusive to Record Store Day 2019, this deluxe reissue comes decades after its initial release, and the first time pressed on vinyl in over 40 years.

Ruffy's back with a new four track EP Casita Más Alta and it's a love letter to Ibiza -
as he takes us on an alternative tour of his favourite parts of the pine-covered
island.

The title track opens slowly, spaced out with motifs and pads washing in like an
incoming tide, before charging headlong to the beach with a thumping kick and
distorted keyboard solo. In contrast, we get a more sundown feel with Cala Vedella,
soaking up the forest breeze and sounding like The Art of Noise but fed through a
modulator and left to float in the iciest pitcher of 7Up.

Meanwhile, the rolling congas and percussive synths of Las Cicadas take us deep
into tribal territory, Lost Woods style. The EP closes out with Niu Blau, built on
beautifully optimistic choir pads and steel pan sounds, and the evening could just
go on forever, especially if you've taken any of those power ups. It might be an
homage to Ibiza and the Balearics, but seen through the Ruf Dug prism, there's
always something new to discover.

We are happy to announce that Ruf Dug, the Mancunian record producer, radio host, and self-professed video game freak is the latest artist to climb aboard the Pinchy train.

Well known for his kaleidoscopic approach both in the DJ booth and in the studio, Ruf Dug has touched on genres as diverse as street soul, vaporwave, and acid house over the years. He has released material on labels such as Rhythm Section, Klasse Wrecks, and his own Moodymann approved Ruf Kutz.

For his Pinchy & friends’ debut (there's a 6-song EP in the works as well) the NTS radio host distils some of these aforementioned influences and presents a two-track 12" that explores dub techno, Chicago acid, and atmospheric balearica.

Built around a solid, techy thud, "Thru The Night!" rides seismic bass waves and reverb-laden stabs to more tropical climes, thanks to gusts of echoed flutes and a catchy, 8-bit vocal hook.

On the flip, "I Love You" takes a minor-key synth riff and sends it off to music school for some late-night nasty dance floor bliss.

After a long time in the works, Mothball Record is proud to present a lost album from legendary Italian wave band: Ruins. Hailing from Venice, Ruins are one of the pioneering artists of the Italian new wave scene beginning in the late seventies: an explosion of new and exciting art, music and film. The tracks on “New Record” were taken from the self-distributed, tape only release from 1983 “Side Roads”. This album was timed directly before their most well-known releases in contemporary times, the “Fire / Crime” 12” and the eponymous 4 track EP on Black Square. Taken from the original master tapes and selected by Ruins themselves, the album should be listened as a whole to gain the full experience, but immediate ‘must-hear’ tracks are “I Don’t Know”, “I Love You” and “Last Night DJ Killed My Wife” featuring early use of Roland TB303. At times unsettling, beautiful, violent, harmonious, these songs will finally get the audience and exposure they deserve 35 years later.

Following on from Soundway’s 2022 compilation, Padang Moonrise, are two late 1960s tracks from Java, Indonesia. one instrumental psychedelic organ version of Classic Indonesian track ‘Bubuj Bulan’ and the other a raw funk cut sung in Arabic. Rully Djohan recorded this unique, psychedelic instrumental version of Benny Corda’s classic ‘Bubuj Bulan’ for his album of instrumental organ versions of popular Indonesian songs recorded in 1971-72. With echoes of Indian, Ethiopian and Egyptian jazz melded with traditional Javanese music this version is a shimmering, dubbed-out take on a song that has been recorded by many Indonesian vocalists. Djohan is backed by The Galaxies Band, and led by one of Indonesia’s most original band leaders and arrangers Jopie Item, who also plays sitar and guitar alongside Djohan’s electric organ. On the flip-side, Munif Bahasuan delivers a deep funk track sung in Arabic. Munif was a Jakarta-based vocalist who sung mostly in Arabic and English. Jakarta has a small population of Arabic, ethnically Middle Eastern people who settled in Indonesia via connections with Islam and Islamic culture, the dominant religion in Java, Sumatra and many other of the main islands in the Indonesian archipelago.
