King Pari is like potato chips, popsicles, velcro, slinkies — joyful inventions born from happy accidents. Joe Paris Christensen and Cameron Kinghorn had been playing in the same Twin Cities scenes for years, but when Joe sent Cameron a new tune he’d whipped up on a tape machine, something clicked. “This sounds like how my brain feels,” Cameron said. That session grew into the first King Pari song.

The band’s Minneapolis funk pedigree anchors their music. Both Joe and Cameron played alongside some of Prince’s closest associates, and Joe’s previous band was among the last that Prince personally invited to play at Paisley Park. They’ve also been tapped into the national funk and jazz scenes from the beginning – King Pari’s first gig was opening for Kamasi Washington, before they’d even landed on a name.

Corona Forever, Forever Corona. Und das kam so: Oliver war wie immer mit seinem Hund Arthur unterwegs. Beim Spazierengehen durch die menschenleeren Straßen von Hamburg hatte er plötzlich einen Basslauf und eine kleine Melodie im Ohr - und den passenden Refrain dazu: Corona Forever, Forever Corona. Oliver ging zu seinem Freund Carsten Meyer, besser bekannt als Erobique, und sang ihm seine Melodie vor. Carsten hat ein kleines Studio am Fischmarkt, in dem beiden gerade an einem Album arbeiten. Er setzte sich sofort ans Klavier. "Das ist bei uns immer so", sagt Oliver. "Ich singe was, und Carsten fängt an zu spielen." Sie reimten "House" auf "Mouse" und "Everbody's missing" auf "Handshakes, hugs and kissing". Zwei Sängerinnen aus Hamburg bildeten einen Chor, in dem man auf der Stelle Mitglied werden möchte, die Orchester-Begleitung kam aus dem Midi, und fertig war der Song: Corona Forever, Forever Corona Oliver Polak ist Entertainer, Schriftsteller und Gastgeber mehrerer Fernsehsendungen. Singen kann er auch, seine Stimme liegt irgendwo zwischen Barry White und Barry Manilow. Bekannt geworden ist er als deutsch-jüdischer Comedian mit einem ausgeprägten Hang zur Grenzüberschreitung. Doch wenn man seinen Corona-Song hört, wird schnell klar, dass dieses Lied kein Witz ist. Es beschreibt das lähmende Gefühl der Isolation und der Unsicherheit, das die letzten Monate geprägt hat und das wohl auch so schnell nicht wieder verschwinden wird. Corona Forever, Forever Corona. Es ist kein Zufall, dass er dabei klingt wie der Sänger einer deutschen Synthiepop-Band aus den Achtzigern, die auf den internationalen Markt schielt. Damals hatte man keine Angst vor Pathos, und auch Oliver kennt keine Scheu vorm großen Gefühl, auch wenn es verwundbar macht. "Corona Forever" ist Clubhit und Schmusesong in einem. Der Zustand der Unsicherheit und der Hilflosigkeit wird von einem Refrain aufgehoben, der sich ausbreitet wie eine kuschelige Decke. Eine Decke, unter der die ganze Menschheit Platz hat. Forever Corana, Corona Forever!

Swedish synth-pop phenomenon Kite's second 7 inch since signing with Dais in 2023 finds the duo of Nicklas Stenemo and Christian Hutchinson Berg swinging for new heights of romantic desolation and baroque grandeur. They describe the A Side, "Losing," as a "six-minute empty call for emotional response." Stately piano and anguished voice reverberate in a vaulted hall, before gradually building into a widescreen anthem of synths, drums, and soaring vocals decrying the steady deadening of life and love: "It's deadly quiet in your old heart / Are you there? / I see dark skies on the rise / And daylight shows no remorse / And I realize it is my life / But It's losing all meaning." Swedish dark music icons Anna von Hausswolff and Henric de la Cour join the chorus as the song cascades towards an ominous horizon. The B Side, "Glassy Eyes," showcases Kite's mastery of somber, sweeping balladry. Hushed church organ elevates and anchors Stenemo's devastated confessional, swaying between resilience and defeat. The band describes the song as a reckoning with "the privileged and existential anxiety of drifting through life dispassionately," contrasted with "the yearning to connect profoundly with others and a desire for experiences that stir the soul before facing one's final moments." On their debut EP, Sam De Nef and Camille Camille delve into some of their most personal and introspective songwriting yet. These songs showcase their individual talents but also highlight the powerful synergy that arises when two gifted artists and unique vocalists join forces to create something truly special.

Sam and Camille are two unique and talented artists hailing from Belgium who share a gift for writing compelling contemporary folk and singer-songwriter songs. They both released acclaimed debut albums in recent years and have been crossing paths on numerous occasions. Camille appeared in duets on Sam's debut EP and his first album, Sam featured in Camille's live band, each time expressing a profound musical chemistry. This collab EP seemed the logical next step, uniting their talents to craft an EP embodying heartfelt, warm, and uncomplicated songs.

"In the collaborative journey of crafting the songs on Waving, our different creative approaches brought about a unique synergy. We feel the result transcends our individual styles. Each song resonates with our individual aspirations, which makes playing them very refreshing and challenging."

Stripped to their core, these compositions on their debut EP are defined by the gentle interplay of acoustic guitars and harmonious vocals. Only subtle percussion and the occasional cello add subtle layers to the sonic tapestry. The two recorded the six songs on their debut EP by themselves in the intimate atmosphere of Sam's home studio, opting for a DIY and back-to-basics approach. Their primary focus was on capturing spontaneity and the essence of live performance. Musical sparring partner PJ Decraene added the final touches and mixed the EP.

‘ooh DO U Fink U R’ is a gloriously sunny, optimistic and defiant Motown and ‘60’s R&B influenced stomper drawing on Suggs and Weller’s upbringing in Britain’s 1970’s comprehensive school system in London and Woking respectively. This picture disc is a Record Store Day 2023 exclusive, following from the sold out limited 7” release from June ’22. Having known each other on-and-off over the last four decades, the seeds of this collaboration emerged in 2019 when Weller joined Suggs on his Radio Four series ‘Love Letters To London’ to talk about an ever changing Soho. As the world subsequently went into lockdown in 2020, the pair started chatting more and more frequently about music, clothes and football, eventually exchanging half finished songs, demos and sketches of lyrics. With its working class aesthetic, Motown influenced stomp, and uplifting brass, it’s an intuitive collaboration that sits neatly as a welcome addition to both men’s great songbooks.
