Alpha RAY by The Norio Maeda Trio was originally released in the Swinging Sixties and this hot latin number was rediscovered by the Tokyo Hipsters at the height of the Acid Jazz Boom and became part of Shibuya Jazz Dance Folklore.
Hakuchu NO Shugeki - Theme by Terumasa Hino Quintet is from a Japansploitation thriler made in 1970 with plenty of guns, gals, guys, sharpsuited action and gallons of studio blood! Mostly freeform blowing by the Legend that is Terumasa Hino for the soundtrack, one of the exceptions being this Blue Note Styled Soul Jazz number that sounds as if it came off the Van Gelder production line circa '66 to '71. Easily could be mistaken for Blue Mitchell, Donald Byrd or Freddie Hubbard's outputs post soul, pre-electric happenings. Another Jazz Room thing of beauty!

Nubiyan Twist and Swindle reimagine two Blue Note classics for Blue Note Re:imagined II; a new 16-track compilation featuring fresh takes on music from the illustrious Blue Note vaults recorded by a heavyweight line-up of the UK jazz, soul and R&B scene’s most hotly-tipped rising stars. Arriving off the back of the widespread international success of the first volume, which topped jazz charts around the globe, Blue Note Re:imagined II once again infuses the spirit of the new UK jazz generation into the legendary label’s iconic catalogue, balancing the genre’s tradition with its future and reflecting the melting pot of talent and diversity within the current scene.

We Jazz Records continues their 7" series with a new release by Oaagaada, a fresh quartet from the rural parts of Southern Finland. "Oag-ada / A Swimming Trip" appears on 30 October and presents the band's ability to create fiery and flowing jazz music with strong avantgarde leanings. Think Art Ensemble Of Chicago on their groovy mode and add a strong DIY mentality, four people in a room creating music in the now. The lows are low and the highs are high, with the trumpet firmly on the red, adding just the right amount of blurriness into the picture. Perhaps it's not "lo-fi jazz" per se, but rather music which is more concerned with other things than the cleanest of hi-fi imagery. This is "real jazz for real people".

The quartet includes Tuure Tammi (trumpet), Sami Pekkola (sax), Tero Kemppainen (bass) and Simo Laihonen (drums). Laihonen has recently appeared on We Jazz Records with Stanley J. Zappa and previously with Black Motor, and more Oaagaada can be heard on the recent "We Jazz Live Plates" album "Lonna 2019".

True to We Jazz style, the 7" single comes with old school heat-pressed labels and a plain brown paper sleeve.

Original created by Roland Kovac’s studio band for an industrial commercial, Hans Georg Brunner Schwer, an admirer of Kovac’s work, released the recordings as a full length Saba album in 1968 under the title ‘Trip To The Mars’. The recording has a sound somewhere between atmospheric soundtrack, library and modal jazz. Sort after for the modal waltz dancer ‘Blue Dance’, presented here in it’s ultimate sonic form – AAA analogue mastered and cut to 45rpm. Side 2’s ‘Milky Way’ is a heady trip mixing jazz elements with floating brass harmonies and sensuous horn solos.

The fourth and last pre-release 7" single features London based Oscar Jerome (also known as a guitar player with Afrobeat-Sextet Kokoroko), who mixes hiphop, punk, soul and West-African influences with jazz music. He chose to rework "Green With Envy", originally recorded by Grant Green.



Franc Moody is a disco-electronic-funk-collective, directed by the masterminds Ned Franc and Jon Moody from West-London. "Cristo Redentor" (originally recorded by Donald Byrd) is the track they put their hands on.

Oswald Moris is a musician, DJ and radio-host from Brussels, Belgium. “Back in 2020 when the pandemic evaporated my touring schedule as a DJ, a couple of friends invited me to spend some time at their home studio. My focus at that time was on 70’s and 80’s Library Music (making edits and remixes at home), so we took that catalogue as a starting point to jam and record some of our own interpretations.” During these sessions two songs took center stage, providing arrangements that suited the instruments at hand. Deconstructing the originals and rearranging them gave space for further experimentation and improvisation. “As a Belgian fan of ‘rare grooves’ it’s hard to miss Janko Nilovic. He worked on numerous records that were recorded in our country. His Soul Impressions-LP is probably one of the first Library records I’ve ever listened to, and it still holds a special place in my collection today. If you combine all of this with my love for flute-solos, the choice for Drug Song was almost inevitable.” It’s not the first time Janko and Oswald’s paths cross: the maestro once provided a guest selection for a Brokers-show. “The second tune had to come from the mighty KPM catalogue. I think I’m not exaggerating if I say their ‘greensleeves’ are the most iconic series of Library records out there. Top notch productions by the best in the game: Hawkshaw, Bennett, Mansfield, … I even married to a Mansfield-track, just to give you an idea.” Where Drug Song leans heavy on funky guitar and flute, the flipside of this release brings a more atmospheric take on the genre. “Since we had a lot of keys in the studio, we picked this John Cameron composition to explore more of that realm. The smooth arrangement of Heat Haze had us vibing for days and brought a perfect counterbalance to the raw qualities of Drug Song. Pure bliss!”

Berlin-based Swedish dynamic duo of sax man Otis Sandsjö and bassist/producer Petter Eldh return with new music on We Jazz Records. Remember the hard hitting banger "Tremendoce" from Otis Sandsjö's "y-otis 2"? Well, the saga continues, and the new directions are surprising to say the least, just as we like it!!! Some proper late night / early morning out there vibes on this one, and the flip is yet another step forward, bringing in Kathrin Pechlof on harp. Things are liquid, just as you would guess, but the whole consistency of the substance has flipped and evolved. A new sound. A new idea. Another new day in Mauerpark, Berlin.

Another welcome addition to Four Flies 45s series, this 7” contains three uber-funky instrumentals taken from an unreleased soundtrack by Paolo Ormi, two of which previously included in Four Flies’ now almost impossible-to-find comps Esterno Notte and Esterno Giorno. Featuring wah-wah guitars, pulsating bass, drum breaks and pronounced horn section. One of the funkiest blaxploitation-inspired soundtracks ever made in Italy.

Paprika Soul, a unit formed by Alan Barnes and Andrew Spiller, who have made their mark on the UK soul and jazz scene, cover the mellow classic "Summer Madness" with female singer Jacqui Hicks on Side A. The album features a moody, urban vocal jazz mix on Side B, and a mellow, jazzy vocal jazz mix on Side C. The album is available on vinyl for the first time in 2019. Side A is a moody and urban Vocal Jazz Mix, and Side B is a Scirocco Mix with a lyrical guitar solo that evokes a Mediterranean breeze. The smooth and Balearic sound of this superb cover work is intoxicating.

We thought these two great cuts from Paris Thought Seeds Album and NCE Ghost would fit a single well. Thick jacket complete with new drawings by Carol Sawall.

Any 45 by musician and composer Pat Van Dyke is a
must own—the tastiest of treats for your turntable.
This fresh platter of wax builds upon the success of
Van Dyke's 2018 full length effort “Hello, Summer”
which received overwhelming support and praise
from Pitchfork, Wax Poetics, Fleamarket Funk and
more. Pitchfork nicely summed up that LP: The New
Jersey jazzman combines hip-hop sensibilities with
the precision of Count Basie in a collection of highly
controlled compositions that are nonetheless warm,
languid, and dedicated to the funk.
Pat’s dedication continues to be on display on
everything he touches—this time on two brand new
cuts; “New Memories” b/w “Alright By Me”. Both
tracks burst with melody, the right amount of
breeziness and cleverness. Recorded at home on the
vintage Tascam 388 Eight Track tape machine, Pat
performed the rhythm section tracks on his own
before adding featured soloists Zac Colwell
(Saxophone on "New Memories") and Matt Chertkoff
(Guitar on "Alright By Me").
Van Dyke’s work is unbeatable and he’s managed to
keep his releases in a cadence that keeps audiences
hungry and quality control top of mind.
A sureshot. And as always, best paired with a fine
IPA or that Sunday morning coffee.

Pantaleon Perez Prado is the younger brother of the “King Of The Manbo” who came in Europe in the 50s and recorded some albums with Unifunk. Taken from “Escandalo” (sceb919lp) “Circle” was written by Mario Rusca and has been performed by some amazing musicians such has Tullio De Piscopo, Hugo Heredia and Pino Presti. “Circle” is a strong track with a killer groove – on the B side we have an unique version edited by Gerardo Frisina

Producer/bassist Petter Eldh's celebrated Koma Saxo returns with a fresh single release on We Jazz Records, June 12. "Koma Mate" is a new look on "Koma Tema" from Koma Saxo's 2019 debut album. The track's anthemic quality remains, but with an extra 10% bangerism added for good measure. On the flip, Eldh invites Jameszoo to tear apart and reassemble Koma Saxo's elements, making for an extra tasty serving of spicy Koma Soup, filled with criss-crossing saxes and odd grooves. Lightning in a bottle, times two. "Koma Mate / Jagd (Feat. Jameszoo)" will be released by We Jazz Records on June 12 as a 7" single and digitally. True to We Jazz style, the 7" comes with an old school heat-pressed labels and a generic brown paper sleeve.

Japanese radio edit single of „Harvest Time / Love Will Find Way“ is a complement to Pharoah Sanders‘ seminal album from 1977 Pharoah.

After the band's well received and outstanding debut "The Cradle" there remained two tracks unreleased on vinyl from the original sessions. Second Thoughts Records and Nightnote Records teamed up to create a limited run 45 of these tracks, "Mama (trio)" and "Drum Talk" with hand stamped sleeves. Both these Jazz tunes feature a different trio formed from the usual quartet, giving each song a unique and intimate feel.

Recorded during the Spring 2020 lockdown, these two songs are a response to the Pandemic and the challenges faced by our families and communities. Second Thoughts Records and Nightnote Records teamed up to create a limited run 45 of the tracks "Still Dancing" and "The Searcher" with hand stamped sleeves. This will be a vinyl / Bandcamp digital only release.

Another collaboration by Umiliani with director Luigi Scattini, another genius composition! Written for the 1969 film "Witchcraft 70", Umiliani's soundtrack is a unique blend of groove and magic.

One of the peaks of Umiliani's creative powers, the soundtrack to Luigi Scattini's 1974 erotic film explores exotic jazz-funk rhythms. This unique double-sider is the perfect accomplice to any DJ.

The inspirational intake and respectful tribute of and to Hindi Cinema Soundtrack artists Kalyanji-Anandji and R. D. Burman and the Simla Beat guitar organ psych records of the early/mid 70’s, coupled with the Italian silver-stringed heavy-funked composers Piero Umiliani and Stefano Torossi kaleidoscopically conjure the sounds brought to you by Pleasurewood in this 7” single. Firework is ushered in by a Hofner Beatle bass’s nasal clacking joyfully assisted by clapping hands through murky spring reverb. A breakbeat incantation to the sun scored with Farfisa, Guitar Wah and Arp Odyssey. Move! is a more pensive post-apocalyptic funk hymn with the instrumentation of piano, cimbalom and mellotron, plus the layered and flanged vocals of the composers Paul Elliott and Anthony Donje, with the instruction to ‘Move!’ by studio kingpin Buddy Elliott.

Psycho 2000 - A dark but funky theme that begins with an occulting Italian echo-oscillator drone that is soon followed by pulsating bass and breakbeat drums, leads to tremolo guitars, an ostinato on electric mandolas, strings climbing eloquent ladders, otherworldly electronics, and a cinematic finale. An evocation of a parade of wooden nutcracker soldiers elaborately dressed in gold-trimmed black uniforms down a wide avenue decorated with mardi gras beads and animal skulls upon golden cobblestones toward a tornado spiralling out purple-hued glissandos and curlicues of elephant smoke. White Spiritual - Head nod action, the twinkling of a late 60’s Vox Continental II with sickly transistors, the noodling matrix of an intergalactic telephone exchange carried on a bed of bouncy bass with a firm backbeat. The Johnny Guitar Watson-esque bite and sting of a ‘67 Teisco guitar preludes slabs of unison dark brown moog and organ giving way to the dance of fingers over the black naturals and white sharps of the Continental II.

The fact that the treasured recordings left behind by Chicago saxophonist Prince Billy Marge Wright have been unearthed is not overstating the case for spiritual jazz fans. The lost material features mainly keyboard instruments rather than his trademark saxophone, and sounds even more spiritual and free jazz than the classic You Got Dat Wright.

In addition to this, P-vine is releasing his most popular song 'Summer Love' as a single for the first time. The B-side of this single features a rare remix, making this single perfect for DJ use.
