Extreme UK Progressive Doom Metal band Self Hypnosis, featuring members of Esoteric, set to to release their new album Contagion Of Despair on the 21st of August 2020 via Svart Records! Though Self Hypnosis are a new band, aficionados of the British Extreme Doom scene should need little introduction to the band members themselves. The project has its roots in Kris Clayton‘s long-standing, often-solo, Camel Of Doom outfit, which itself evolved from basic Stoner beginnings towards a much more avant-garde proposal, culminating with the release of fourth full-length album Terrestrial through renowned Russian label Solitude Productions in 2016. Following that, Kris began work on composing the next Camel Of Doom album, but quickly realised that the material was becoming even more experimental and eclectic than previous outings: so much so that it would be more appropriate to record it under a different name, making it clear that there should be no preconception, or historical expectation, attached to it.

In the summer of 2019, a newly formed, Oklahoma City-based rock band called Chat Pile would release its debut four-track EP, This Dungeon Earth. Little did anyone know at the time, but this initial taste of grotesque, confronting, and visceral noise rock courtesy of four slacker Okies would kick off the story of what would soon be one of the most widely lauded underground acts in years. Like the towering mounds of toxic waste from which it gets its namesake, Chat Pile’s body of work is emblematic of a distinctly midwestern flavor of American dread, with This Dungeon Earth being no exception to the rule. While raw in presentation, Chat Pile’s debut EP comes across as anything but a rough draft. Much of the band’s hallmark traits, spanning the unhinged vocals of frontman Raygun Busch, the grotesquely contorted guitar riffage, and the industrial smack of heavily processed percussion, appear as far back as this earliest chapter. If anything, the raw, DIY-rooted origins of these uncompromising thirteen minutes of sludged-out carnage make This Dungeon Earth all the more impactful. Between its biting social commentary and gratuitous grindhouse insanity, the unfiltered brutality of Chat Pile’s debut recording has seen tracks like “Rainbow Meat”, “Face”, and “Ratboy” become mainstays in its notorious live shows. Although it depicts the band’s monstrous amalgamation of noise rock, sludge metal, hardcore, and more as it is just beginning to congeal, This Dungeon Earth comes off as the furthest thing from a simple intro and more of an essential first chapter in Chat Pile’s story.

Released only a handful of months following the band’s breakthrough debut EP, Remove Your Skin Please signaled that whatever Chat Pile was doing wasn't just a one-off novelty of Midwest metal nihilism. While the band’s foundational sound of caustic and cacophonous noise rock crystallized with its debut, the release of Remove Your Skin Please signposted the vast extent to which Chat Pile could stylistically tinker and conceptually iterate atop it. Heard in the gothy post-punk dirge of “Mask” and the dissonant extreme metal fervor of “Davis'', the more experimental ideas present on Remove Your Skin Please come off less like a selection of the band’s conceptual prototypes and more like fully realized reflections of its member's own tastes and preferences. That doesn’t mean Chat Pile’s noise rock foundation is diluted in the slightest as EP bookends “Dallas Beltway” and “Garbage Man” push its twisted take on the genre to new aural extremes in its instrumentation and subject matter spanning grisly serial murders to the slow festering death of the environment at the hands of mankind. For as ugly and unhinged as Chat Pile’s tales of 21st-century American dread are, Remove Your Skin Please asserts something that is somehow subtly even more terrifying: If a quartet of otherwise ordinary Okies can convey such apocalyptically bleak yet resonate messages in its music, that may mean we feel that same nihilism, too.

Formed with the idea to demonstrate the worst that exists in each person, and with a decent dose of pessimism towards the world as we know it, Brazilian black metal solo artist Pessimista has announced the worldwide release of his latest, 2021- album, titled "Ocaso". Set for release on August 20th via Subsound Records, "Ocaso“ will be available worldwide and for the first time in black vinyl (200) and strictly limited orange vinyl editions (100). Says Pessimista: "This album will finally be released on vinyl, becoming a milestone for the band and a personal milestone. I am sure that Subsound Records will do an excellent job, as I have been following their releases and I know that the various weight bands are happy with the work developed".

Originally formed in 2002 at a party just to have an excuse to get drunk and bash out some old school crusty punk, the band went on a hiatus and came back rather swiftly and changing their style to death metal. But not without losing that old punk feel to it. Over time it grew into a proper band with a stable line up. The debut album was released in 2010 and since then BOMBS OF HADES have continued to evolve their music into a more progressive, Motörhead-esque and doomy style without really losing it's death metal and crust roots. Led by guitarist/singer Jonas Stålhammar (AT THE GATES, GOD MACABRE, THE LURKING FEAR, ex CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX, ex THE CROWN) BOMBS OF HADES are ready to unveil a new EP as a taster before the 5th album is recorded during 2020. Since the last album "Death Mask Replica" was released in 2016 to critical acclaim it's about time.

Hexandagger is a heavy project band featuring Brad Davis (bassist for Fu Manchu) on drums, Emily Burton (Fireball Ministry): guitars/vocals, Helen Storer (Fireball Ministry/ ex Fluffy): lead vocals/bass and Per Wiberg (Opeth, Spiritual Beggars, Grand Magus etc) Keyboards. As long-time mutual friends they formed in the summer 2018 and jammed solidly throughout the ensuing winter months. The initial results of these heavy jams can now be heard on this, their debut 7” for Rise Above Records. Mixing classic doom riffing with shoegazing otherworldliness, Hexandagger is more than just a one-off venture. More material is waiting to be unleashed and dates were planned prior to the dreaded Covid outbreak took its grip. Stay tuned for more activities from this spellbinding power-trio. Re-issue of Kolborn's debut album “First Enslavement” - now on limited edition vinyl and CD with all-new remastered sound!! Denmark, 2002. The world was suffering a heavy hangover of Carcass “Heartwork” grooves and “One Kill Wonder”, by The Haunted, was still in the works. Nobody - even the few ones that were lucky enough to grab one of the copies of their “Blessed By Beyond” demo a few years earlier - was expecting the kind of evolution Kolborn presented in their debut album “First Enslavement”. Equal parts brutality and groove, wrapped up in all-rounded technical flawless approach by the band and a clinical production by Jacob Bredahl (Exmortem, Koroded, Hatesphere, Leng T’Che). Firing all-cylinders, the band, led by guitarist Henrik “Heinz” Jacobsen (also of Hatesphere) entered the scene by storm, with the album receiving overwhelming reviews for its musical diversity and brutal groove with a Scandinavian touch of melody. Martin Leth Andersen, vocalist in “First Enslavement”, recalls: “We prepared ourselves mentally by partying all by ourselves in Køng, drinking cheap, warm beer from the almost functioning fridge and having pissing contests in the manure behind the rehearsal quarters”. The result is, to put it simple, the definition of thrash/death metal made with groove in Denmark.

TO THE DOG’s self-titled debut EP. A whirlwind of crust metal dirtiness from the North Americas. Hailing from the frozen wastes of Wisconsin, TO THE Dogs are a juggernaut of classic crust. The power-trio made their public debut in December 2020 with a digitally-released three-song demo, which is now being released as their debut EP and thusly titled To the Dogs. Charging hard, charging free, TO THE Dogs have Motorcharge on lock, but also nod to classic blackthrash (think early Aura Noir) and the punkiest speed metal (think classic Warfare). Theirs is a sound that's unapologetically old-style, but refreshingly honest in its approach - not to mention addicting! Indeed, across the nine short/sharp/shocked minutes of To the Dogs, TO THE Dogs roam the post-apocalyptic wasteland on motorcycles made exclusively of spikes and chains, and then proceed to burn through that wasteland and get the fuck out. Hitch a ride now or DIE!

Dormant for nearly a third of a century, originally formed in 1982 by (then) bassist Damian Thompson & drummer Andy Baker (joined by Freaky Freeman on vox & Anarchy Mole on guitar).Warwound spat & cursed out three demos of 'fast, no bullshit, hardcore punk' through late 82/early 83.Heavily influenced by the sounds of the time (Discharge, Crass, Rudimentary Peni, Motorhead, Bad Brains etc) the band played a handful of gigs around the midlands area of the U.K. before in the autumn of 1983 Damian & Andy were enlisted to join the Varukers. Warwound as it was, ceased to be. During their time in the Varukers, the pair recorded two Warwound numbers which were to be featured on the classic Varukers album 'Another Religion, Another War'. Since that time some thirty years ago, the original Warwound demo tapes have been copied and circulated many times through underground circles of D-beat noise enthusiasts. The emergence of Sacrilege in 1984 also added to keep interest alive in the old Warwound material. These hugely influential recordings (25 tracks, 15 songs in various versions) are made commercially available for the first time, and with a brand new version of the band (featuring original member Damian Thompson alongside past and present members of Varukers, Discharge, Stamping Ground, Decadence Within , Sacrilege and others)

Orthodox recently reformed as a duo with Marco Serrato (bass, vocals) and Borja Daz (drums). Here they perform with different guests musicians, developing a new form of contemporary heavy metal meets extreme jazz meets doom. These tracks showcase a more 'straight forward' concept in the composing process. But this is just NOW, as ORTHODOX never compromises with certain sound or 'song concept' for very long.
