2024 marks the 40th Anniversary of The Cure’s 5th studio album, ‘The Top’. First Time on Picture Disc. Remastered by Robert Smith and cut by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios, London. Originally released in 1972 on Vanguard Records, Bob Frank’s self-titled debut album took elements of Dylan, Johnny Cash, and Ian Tyson and filtered it thru a pot-smoked haze and the infusion of Frank’s long-time friend, Memphis guru Jim Dickinson. Dickinson and Frank shared a mutual admiration that ran so deep that on Dickinson’s own 1972 debut album Dixie Fried (released on Atlantic Records), he recorded one of Bob Frank’s songs “Wild Bill Jones.” But despite the Dickinson/Memphis connection, Bob Frank’s only LP for Vanguard became a forgotten, hard to find relic - until Light in the Attic reissued it to great acclaim in 2014. Now, from Real Gone comes more 1972 Vanguard Bob Frank recordings (all previously unreleased studio songs) coupled with a live set from the Old Quarter in Houston 1973 (the first-ever vintage live Bob Frank recordings to be released). Includes an insert with extensive liner notes detailing Frank’s career self-sabotage by Pat Thomas and the director of the documentary Within A Few Degrees: A Little Gest of Bob Frank, Isaac Pingree. 20 tracks, all unreleased, pressed on stems ‘n’ seeds “marijuana” vinyl.

Oldfield came up with Hergest Ridge, the successor to Tubular Bells, written at The Beacon, his home there on the borders. Mike’s demo of the album – that was ultimately released in August 1974, topping the UK chart – was first released on the 2-cd set of Hergest Ridge in 2010. Now, for Record Store Day 2024, it makes its debut on vinyl, mastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road. With new artwork overseen by Mike Oldfield (including photographs taken on the Ridge in 2023), The 1974 Demo offers a chance to revaluate this breathtaking English pastoral music, two suites performed and played by a 21-year old musician running from fame.

Formed in Birmingham in 1976, English punk quartet Suburban Studs built their reputation through fearsome early live gigs, supporting the Pistols and the Clash at the 100 Club, and having the Clash return the favour at a gig the Studs headlined in their home town; they later supported Ac/dc and Judas Priest, among many others. Signing to the independent Pogo label in l977, debut album Slam had 16 brisk originals and a double-time take of the Who’s ‘My Generation’; this edition comes with four bonus tracks taken from their unfinished in-progress second album, which was never released. A must-have for all original punk fans.

Italian library music obscure cult release Officially reissued for the first time ever Originally released in 1980 "Descriptive" completes the series of official reissues of the only two LPs released under the Corviria moniker by Edizioni Leonardi in 1977 (Psyco Analysis) and 1980 (Descriptive) respectively. Both are among the most obscure titles of Italian library music, whose composers can only be traced in the figures of Luigi Bergonzi and Vittoria Corona.

Musically, "Descriptive" marks an evolution of the electronic and dark sound of the previous "Psyco Analysis", starting with the fourpart opening minisuite "Evil's Suite", a genuine trip into kraut and progressive rock territories, then continuing with the abstract and mysterious "Suspence Effect One / Two" and finally with a series of more conventional and easylistening tracks that for the most part recall the sounds of Tangerine Dream from that period.

Just like "Psyco Analysis", the mysterious "Descriptive" now eventually enjoys a muchneeded and welldeserved reissue, the first one ever, faithful to the original, on the occasion of Record Store Day 2024!

Before embracing punk through the influence of bands like the Damned, UK Subs frontman Charlie Harper was active in pub rock groups, so when he decided to cut his debut solo album for Flicknife Records in 1981, he returned to classic rock ‘n’ roll and R&B, cutting an enjoyable covers album with fellow Subs Steve Slack and Pete Davies in tow. Tune in to this long lost gem to catch the other side of Charlie, who delivers one-off takes of Hendrix’s ‘Hey Joe,’ the Doors’ Light My Fire, the Velvets’ ‘Femme Fatale’ and Muddy Waters’ ‘Hoochie Coochie Man,’ among others. All UK Subs fans take note: your hero’s alter-ego awaits!

A rare private pressing from 1981 gets a loving remaster from Simon Mills [bent] and a reissue on the NuNorthern Soul label who have been releasing and reissuing musical oddballs and goodness for 11 years. Ace compialtion compiler, Paul Hillery [bbe, ReWarm] has spent time interviewing Mike Welch about this project and will be included as extensive sleeve notes on the release. This is a very special Blue Eyed Soul album with heavy Country leanings or as Paul puts it ' A record made by a musician, having to work hard by day and then put it all on the line in the studio at the weekend. Reflective songwriting and tight musicianship are given the space to breathe and un-smothered by overproduction. Difficult to tag, harder to find, essential re-issue business.' Copies of this are very hard to come by and go for silly money on Discogs which is a shame as the world needs to hear this album. 1LP vinyl with heavy card insert.

By the early 80s punk had become something else compared to what it was when Year Zero stabbed a flag in the sand and established ‘War!’ on boredom and normality. You could argue that in 1982 when Endangered Species arrived...UK Subs were very much that. The vanguard of the second wave. A crucial nook in the subculture. Still alive. Still kicking. Still prowling around the town with their best point yet to be proven. From Ambition, essentially an annihilated bluegrass-skank version of the Stones’ Satisfaction, to Indie Chart hit single Countdown and the atomic sonics of a post punk dub attack in Ice Age, all blistering guitar razors that chime against the night as well as chew it up, it's easy to see both why Charlie Harper considers the group's fifth LP to be their strongest and Guns ‘n’ Roses covered Down on the Farm.

Overdue re-issue of the first three 12” in the record series dedicated to musicians who took part to the Greetings festival. It happened in 1987, it was time for Materiali Sonori 10th anniversary, an historic goal for the label/collective born in the small Tuscany village of San Giovanni Valdarno. The small celebration brought to life a box collecting the first 3 Eps of the Greetings from S.G.V. series. The series was intended as symbolic sound postcard, made with various musicians with whom the collective label shared a path, whether small or long. The Durutti Column, The Stockholm Monsters and Blaine R. Reininger (Tuxedomoon) are among the artist who took part to the project, here collected for the very first time. Lantern is pleased to pay tribute to the work of people whose passion, attitude, commitment and genuineness inspired this adventure still true to these days. "Our presence in this small tuscan town is almost casual... physically we were born and grew up here, while our hearts and our minds were travelling to Paris, Berlin, Brussels, New York or London" (Giampiero Bigazzi of Marteriali Sonori , taken from the original inner sleeves notes).

The Verve’s compilation album of B-sides and outtakes, No Come Down celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2024, to mark this UMR will be releasing it on vinyl for the very first time. With outtakes from the band’s debut album A Storm in Heaven sessions. “Blue” is a different (vocally upfront) “usa Mix” – released to coincide with Verve playing Lollapalooza Festival Chicago in 1994, this also features acoustic versions of “Make It Till Monday” & “Butterfly”, “Gravity Grave” is the live recording from the bands first ever Glastonbury performance in 1993. The Bottle Rockets’ 1994 record The Brooklyn Side ranks right up there with Uncle Tupelo’s Anodyne in the pantheon of alt country albums…yet it has Never come out on vinyl. We’ve hooked up with original producer Eric “Roscoe” Ambel and mastering engineer Scott Hull to score the original tapes and create an all-analog release of this legendary record…but we didn’t stop there. London-based singer/guitarist Dan Treacy took the Mod sound of the mid-1960s and channelled it in other directions through the Television Personalities, the oddball, on-off group he founded with two friends in 1977. The 1995 solo Treacy effort I Was A Mod Before You Was A Mod veers between the humour of ‘As John Belushi Said’ and ‘Little Woody Allen’ to the angst and self-loathing of ‘A Long Time Gone’ and ‘I Can See My Whole World Crashing Down,’ and there’s the catchy Mod homage of the title track. Tragic, spastic, and wildly fearless, this is one of Treacy’s most personal, vulnerable, and sought-after releases.

Back in the year 2000, Julien Temple directed this account of Punk pioneers the Sex Pistols short but hugely influential initial career. The soundtrack – a mix of their classic tracks, rarities and a sprinkling of diverse artists from the Bay City Rollers and Sailor to Tappa Zukie and The Who – was only ever available on CD, making this its vinyl debut. Uncluttered by the other artists tracks, the OST spread across 2 slices of red and white vinyl includes sing along family favourites Liar, Anarchy In The UK and No Fun alongside lesser known but no less essential cuts Don’t Give Me No Lip, Road Runner and What’cha Gonna Do About It. In 2003, Swamp Pop pioneer Tommy McLain self-released his album Moving to Heaven. An extremely rare piece of Louisiana music history, Moving to Heaven only existed as a CD that Tommy himself pressed 500 copies of more than two decades ago. Tommy sold the CDs at his shows on the bayou and that was the only place to purchase this mysterious album. Featuring extremely DIY production techniques and spooky synthesizer sounds, this was Tommy McLain at his most raw and spiritual. Tommy wrote every song and plays every instrument on Moving to Heaven as he vocalizes about life, death and forgiveness. Many years later, Elvis Costello found a CD of Moving to Heaven in a Louisiana record store and fell in love with the music. Costello was a fan of Tommy ever since hearing him back in the ‘70s on the compilation Another Saturday Night, but he knew that Moving to Heaven was something special. Costello and Tommy would eventually meet in 2010 at a Bobby Charles tribute concert where Costello professed his love of Moving to Heaven to Tommy in-person. “I would go to local, secondhand record shops looking for albums by people like Tommy McLain,” Costello told the New York Times in 2022. Yep Roc Records is excited to announce the first-ever vinyl pressing of Moving to Heaven. Pressed on heavenly blue color vinyl and featuring updated lyrics and liner notes from Tommy McLain, this pressing is limited to 1,000 copies worldwide. The album has been remastered for vinyl by Mike Westbrook at MW Audio, the vinyl lacquer cut by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio, and the record itself pressed at the state-of-the-art facilities at Citizen Vinyl in Asheville, North Carolina, This rare artifact of the Swamp Pop genre is finally found and sounds better than ever.

Swedish indie rockers The Hives released their 4th studio album The Black and White Album on 8th October 2007. For the album the band worked with Pharrell Williams. The albums lead single “Tick Tick Boom” has been used in the computer game Madden NFL 08 and many TV shows and films such as CSI: Miami, Friday Night Lights, Jumper, Taken and Friday the 13th. Noctorum is a collaboration between guitarist/singer-songwriter Marty Willson-Piper (The Church, The Saints, All About Eve) and producer Dare Mason. Dare and Marty grew up together on the Wirral, near Liverpool, listening to classic ‘60s pop singles, Singer-Songwriters, Krautrock, Spacerock, Prog, Art Rock, New Wave, Punk, Funk, Glam Rock, Heavy Rock, Reggae and Soul – probably the reason for their diverse and eclectic sound. Moving to Australia in the early ‘80s, Marty joined The Church and then in the early ‘90s All About Eve, while Dare concentrated on becoming an engineer and producer, working at the renowned Townhouse Studios in London, before founding the VIP Lounge studio in Penzance, Cornwall. In the early noughties Dare and Marty formed Noctorum and in 2003 they released their first album on Heyday Records, Sparks Lane (rsd 2021) . Before their second album, Marty joined The Saints and in 2006 Heyday released Offer The Light (rsd 2023). Their third album Honey Mink Forever was released 2011 and has never been released on vinyl. The album features some really beautiful guitar tones throughout with Marty’s playing varying from soft and sensitive to rip-roaring full on lead. The album concludes with a giant jump into Jazz as two worlds meet with local Jazz players doing their thing while Marty adds a left-wing rock guitar element making this an interesting hybrid. The cover art is a photograph of the artifacts window in the physical In Deep Music Archive and arguably the coolest album cover of the band’s catalog.
