Magic Castles Shorts

A never-ending band of misfits. Magic Castles is a London-based brand that offers music and psychedelia-inspired apparel and accessories that go hand in hand with a monthly show on Soho Radio.

London-based company Magic Castles was founded by Chris Stoker and Cathal Mcateer, among others, after two decades of experience in the fashion industry. The original idea with Magic Castles was to create a kind of imaginary utopia or psychedelic theme park where you can do and be whatever you feel like, detached from the shackles of reality. The point was to offer an alternative universe that, away from pigeonholing, offers room for everyone to live out their own creativity.

There are many rooms, none with a key, the doors are always open. Wander and wonder and get lost along the way. Pied Pipers off the beaten track, a never-ending band of misfits. Pear drops rain marshmallow clouds. Fruit Machine Reels, reel. A hall of mirrors smile.

Magic Castles provides the backdrop, the rest is up to you. Music continues to be an important source of inspiration for Magic Castles – not least because it brought the MC team together. For this reason, it’s also unsurprising that Magic Castles puts out a monthly radio show on Soho Radio, where the creative minds of the brand don’t miss the opportunity to host it themselves. Magic Castles’ apparel collections represent just one facet of a bigger picture.

Although it was never intended that the psychedelic vibes of early rave culture shine through in the Magic Castles collections, given the team’s background, it’s hardly surprising that this is the case. However, at Magic Castles this takes place in a very unpretentious way, and they are far from being defined by this aspect. Magic Castles’ designs like to be in bright and saturated colors, exuding retro flavor without seeming corny.

And the fact that some Magic Castles graphics bear a resemblance to the Chemical Brothers’ artwork has a simple reason: Kate Gibb, who used to work for the MC brand, designed a lot of the record covers for the band.
