Established in 1974 by University of California Santa Cruz students Eric Reynolds and Dave Huntley and Tom Boyce, Marmot is a company specialized in outdoor apparel, tools, and accessories. Thanks to the founder’s enthusiasm and dedication to climbing, Marmot soon became a premium outdoor sports brand introducing down vests, sweaters, parkas as well as sleeping bags. It only took two years until Marmot entered into a partnership with Gore-Tex® which led to a long-lasting collaboration – by the way, no other outdoor company uses Gore-Tex® fabric as long as Marmot. In 1986, the Marmot “Alpinist” expedition jacket marked another milestone in the company’s history, soon became a classic and set new standards for functional outdoor jackets. Thanks to the innovative nature of the brand, Marmot also developed high-end custom fabrics such as the tough waterproof, breathable Marmot MemBrain® and Marmot NanoProTM which is even more breathable and waterproof. Marmot products are characterized by the highest possible degree of functionality, not least because the designs have been inspired by the needs of professional alpine guides and athletes to stand up to the challenges of nature.
