Pendleton Knitwear

If we’re talking about American heritage, clothing-related for sure, the name Pendleton comes to mind. Back in 1863, Pendleton founder Thomas Kay was traveling across the US to work at east coast textile mills. Kay found a job at a woolen mill based in Brownsville, Oregon, where he was overseer of weaving operations. In 1889, Kay established his own mill in Salem, Oregon. Twenty years later, Thomas Kay opened the famous original woolen mill in Pendleton which still exists to this day. Thanks to great success, Kay’s company soon expanded and started producing famous Pendleton fabrics and tweeds at a second production facility in Washougal, Washington. During the 1920s, Pendleton introduced the virgin world-famous wool men’s shirt, while later in this decade, Pendleton offered a full collection of men’s sportswear made from virgin wool. It wasn’t until 1949 that Pendleton women’s sportswear collection have been produced to great success. Although Pendleton always stayed true to its philosophy of manufacturing high-quality apparel and offering top notch craftsmanship defined by the brand’s blue and gold label, the company constantly updates its mills with state-of-the-art looms and eco-friendly technology.
