Based in Helsinki, Finland, Tarvas is firmly rooted in the city, yet always close to nature. Tarvas manufactures its footwear locally, using a combination of an urban basement workshop and a factory in the countryside in the middle of the forest, which is another piece of the puzzle in combining outdoor and lifestyle.

The forest inspires Tarvas. Nothing brings as much unclouded clarity as nature. The body is active, the mind comes to rest. In the middle of wildlife, you also feel the presence of the spirit animal, Tarvas the ancient moose who taught the Finn that you can both care for the herd and stay true to your path.

As you set the pace to move from city asphalt to verdant forests, Tarvas has your back. You run your hands over the trees and pause to feel the damp moss, while your mind is free to wander in its own ways. You feel total peace and never want to let go of that moment.

Tarvas originally addressed the question of how to make a shoe that could withstand unpredictable weather conditions while also meeting high aesthetic standards. This question was answered by bringing together a group of outdoor footwear specialists in Helsinki to create a functional style statement. The significant silhouette of the Tarvas shoes was developed, inspired by the Nordic climate but with a timeless look. If it works in Helsinki, it should work everywhere – that was the thought of the Tarvas team.

From the beginning, Tarvas followed the approach that only authenticity and high-quality materials can be used to construct shoes that can convey ideal comfort. The Tarvas Explorer is a prime example of this theory: The shoe is the result of countless prototypes developed in the basement workshop in Helsinki. The design has been further refined over the years and now accompanies more and more people on their travels.
